What-If modern USN FFG based on the Murasame/Takanami-class.

Post by SumGui »

So we have talked this more than a few times, and today's gallery holds a model very similar to what I had intended to put together based on the Murasame/Takanami class.

http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery ... /index.htm

This is labeled as "Murasame Class", but isn't. More a "Modified Murasame Class"

This adds (from the base Murasame):
Mk45 in place of the 76mm
Upgrades the amidships VLS from Mk48 to Mk41 of 32 Cells, while retaining the 16 Mk41 cells forward
Replaces aft CIWS with RAM
Adds Nulka
Adds ASMD CEAFAR/CEAMOUNT phased array radars as found on the Australian HMAS Perth

Adds secondary light guns amidships
The EW system looks like SLQ-32

Big ups to Nikos for making a rather nice looking modern frigate.

I had planned to make a similar mod based on the later Takanami (same hull), using the Italian 127mm and the Takanami's 32 cell forward VLS and expanding the hangar to hull width to accomadate up to two SH-60 sized birds - but his addition of the phased array is certainly a great add, and the attention given to adding Nulka and the secondary guns are especially nice. Looks good too.

BZ Nikos, looks great.

Yes indeed.. I have always thought that JMSDF MURASAME and TAKANAMI Classes had great potential to replace the Perry Class FFG and fill in the gaps for a platform that todays navy could use in various ways/missions. When I saw all the mods he did my mind starting going HMMMMMM. :woo_hoo: :woo_hoo: Thanks for the start a new topic.
