[quote="Neptune"]Basically for me, if a problem takes two pages of discussion to make it clear, then I think it's not that important.

Hmmm, I think this looks like a clear case of immunity to Advanced Modelling Syndrome. Next time he's going to tell us he finishes his kist in under 6 months!

Actually, it's an exception if I finish it in OVER 6 months... Although I'm getting late on my schedules and the latest models are indeed taking that long. But after QM2 and Velikiy are finished I indeed hope to get stuff finished at that rate again! And indeed I am satisfied without PE railings and stuff. The reason why I have only applied PE (with moderate success) once on the Sovremenny because it was included and also the reason why I don't use airbrush and in fact didn't even use tape before the Sovremenny.

I don't use airbrush either but taping saves your time. I realize that taping of 1/700 model is a hard work :lol_1:

Does somebody know, what are the colours of the Russian Kamov Ka-27 Helix on Moskva (Slava class), Kalinin/Admiral Nakhimov (Kirov class) and Besstrashny (Sovremenny class)?

In Trumpeter's instructions the Helix have a white/gray scheme, whereas most Helix on the photos I found have a uniform colour.

Which colours do you use?

I've seen pics of them with blue and white too. I guess it differs from time to time and ship to ship.

Maxim, plese check following link. All photos are dated 2004.

But on photos I'd seen both schemas.

Thanks. :) Therefore both schemas was still in use in 2004.

The uniform grey schema has the same colour as the grey/white schema.

I have only to find photos of the helicopter on the ship, which I want to built :censored_2:

As a matter of fact I built Neustrashimiy last spring and Slava was finished in September; hulls for Kresta I & II were painted together with Kara in July last year :lol_1: Kerch was finished in November and Bravy started right before Christmas. Kirov and Kiev were started in 2004.

hi,

Building 1/700 Trumpeter Slava Cruiser, but I noticed the radar in the fwd mast is probably the update version in use today.
As I also have Kombrik Slave model, I Intend to build a model with the best parts of both models.

I saw many diferente colour deck schemes, but Trumpeter model, sohws a green and red brick collour scheme.
I have both references from WEM, but I wonder if the green colour should not be replaced by a dark grey colour in order to represent verions in use currently...

What scheme colour should I use: green/red brick or grey/red brick?

thanks in advance
Regards
Ayala

(((((could the WebMaster please move this post to the "Calling all Russian/Soviet warship fans!" area? thanks ))))) Edit - no, we can't merge two threads, so I'm taking the advice to make a Slava Thread -Tracy

Well Ayala, maybe we should just make a "Calling all Slava class fans" topic, as the Russian Navy topic is quite large and spread now.

It all depends on which time period you want to show her in and of course, which ship of the class you want to do. Currently Varyag, in the Pacific fleet has a very bright helicopter pad, much like some of the Baltic ships nowadays. The others, like Ustinov, still retain their brick red helicopter deck. The main deck, I think for all three of them, is a brown-grey type of colour. Haven't been able to really fix it in any way. I think there should be some colours close to it, but I haven't been to the modelling shop for a while.

Trumpeter model includes the following pennant numbers: 121, 011, 055 and 088 as well as the decals for each of this 4 ship names.

I want to build the ship by the box, with no modifications , so any of the above 4 ships is good.

regards
Ayala

Ha! I'm very SLOW builder. I enjoy the process and cannot put more then 3 Hrs a week on it. My concept is simple. I'm doing 2-4 models at the same time. I paint all hulls and letting them dry well while finishing
detailing on last ship from previous batch. When I started details on Slava I painted 3 new hulls - Kara, Kresta II and Kresta I.

I'll be going for Admiral Ustinov, in her latest configuration.

Good! Marshal Ustinov is on photos that called Slava-Top-1 through 6. If I build Trumpeter I better go with newest unit in a class - Varyag that has Top Plate instead of Top Steer.

Are you using WEM colorcoats, or Humbrol, or what?

I'm using Gunze Sangyo acrylic paint. My local hobby store has it so I don't have a problem to buy it. I don't like Tamiya, never tried WEM. Humbrol enamel is nice but dries too long.
Gunze is something between ordinary actinic and enamel.
It shines and is smooth as enamel and dries faster then enamel but still not as fast as Tamiya or Testors.

so, do you think Humbrol27 or Humbrol67 are good options for the Slava grey decks?
The flight deck remains WEM green or HU grey?

I don't know about Humbrol, Ayala, since using Gunze.
If you find conversion tables I can say that
Hull is H334, Lower Deck is H68, upper Deck is H7, and green is H6.
This schema is good for Soviet ship. I think Russia paint hull into darker gray.
