Calling all USN, RN Escort Carriers (CVE) fans

My father was a B-17 pilot in the USAAF. Some time in late 1944, he was transported to England on the Ile de France. He told a story about seeing a CVE that was escorting them (as they approached England) being torpedoed in the stern. He described "planes falling off the deck". Of course, his transport took an immediate turn away from the scene, so he never saw the aftermath. Any chance this was Nabob?

Dick, probably not Nabob. She was torpedoed off the north coast of Norway in August, 1944 while involved with air strikes against Tirpitz.

I've just acquired and am working on the Hasegawa 1:350 USS Gambier Bay with all the Hasegawa PE/Deck aftermarket sets. I got the "super" set and it seemed like they left out the fore and after flight deck supports. However, large parts of these appear to be similar to the kit parts with lightening holes cut out...which would be easy to do with the kit parts.

Does anyone have pictures of the fore and aft flight deck supports? I'm toiling with modifying the kit parts versus getting the WEM set in addition. I haven't been able to get good views of this area on Google pictures to figure out how worthwhile this wound be. Any help with photographic documentation of this area would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Sorry to necro, but ironshipwright doesn't mfg the bogue in 1:250 anymore. They said there were rumors of a middle east company doing so in plastic but would not release who (which I understand). Does anyone have information as to who it is or where I can purchase something larger than the dinky tamiya 1:700 bogue?

Haven't been on this site in a while.
Coincidentally last Friday (1/16) I was looking for the same Casablanca class fore/aft flight deck support photos.
I went through Navsource, each ship, every picture (I'm retired, I can do that!).

I found enough good photos of the forward supports to go ahead with the drill bits. Make note that "good enough" was for illustration---some of the photos aren't really so good.
Be sure to look at all of them!
There are holes not included in the kit and the kit has the wrong size for the big uns!
Also note the holes in the fore/aft members.
Some show holes in the front of the forward most gun tubs at the corners of the flight deck.

I'm not sure about the rear. There are a lot of holes there but it doesn't look like each ship had them or that they went all the way through the plate. However, that means the kit part could be used, without drilling, and painted (what color??) like in the photos. Not a full solution but helps.

I have the Gambier Bay AOTS but it has nothing in the drawings. Great source but disappointing for key features. However, it's photos, combined with Navsource were helpful.

The Navsource photos were for:
Forward: Bismark Sea, Corregidor, Petrof Bay, Rudyard Bay, Shamrock Bay, Shiloh Bay, St. Lo, and Takanis Bay.
Aft: Anzio, Sitkoh Bay.

A sidenote is that the aft photos, including others that weren't at an angle to show the brace, made a good comparison with Thetis Bay as CVHA (a separate entry in Navsource from Thetis Bay as CVE),

Thanks for the reply. After reviewing photos I made the same call, but was happy to accept the kit's arrangement as "close enough". I'm on to painting the hull. A bit more work on the flight deck before painting. And then a whole lot of photo-etch and aircraft.

yes, I saw that forum link as well. The kit looks quite nice, hope they will start to sell it soon. I have been so anxious when Hasegawa released their USS Gambier Bay in 1/350, hoping they would scale it down to 1/700... but it never hapenned. Let us hope this one will work out

Google translations from Japanese are always great fun. Can you imagine the outcome when you do the translation e.g. from Japanese to a minor language (like Czech)? It does it in fact twice in the background - from Japanese to English and then from English to Czech. The result is just fancy
