Looks good! You going to use the same water "recipe" as you did with the Hornet?

I'm still slowly but surely slogging away with the big Mo. 5 more 5" turrets to go...

Glad to hear your Mo is still making headway. I cannot wait to see her.

I am using a different method for the water this time that is both less expensive, less weight and substantially less toxic. Using styrofoam that has been carved to mimic the wave and wake patterns this will have an overlay of paper and acrylic artist gel with a similar painting technique and cotton to create the sea foam and Woodland Scenic Realistic Water brushed over the top to make it wet looking.

I got the crane done, but I realized that the Laura will not fit with the catapult shuttle were it is. I will either try to move the shuttle forward or just not put the laura on at all. I also started working on the 25mm placements. One is finished, the other is currently in progress but I am simply too tired to continue tonight.

Second 25mm done, a few more smaller bits added. The 02 level added to the back of the bridge and the foremast tripod section added.

Thanks guys. I appreciate you dropping comments. It helps keep me going:)

Work continues....slowly. I need to find some figures that I like. I have some enlisted guys from Fujimi that came with my Haruna. The ones from Northstar look nice but not quite what I am after. I hate the PE ones (and the Tamiya plastic ones may as well be PE as they are basically 2D like PE).

There are a couple of Fujimi 1/350 sets available via Amazon, of all places.

This was a convenient thread to run into, as I am currently building a 1/700 Nagara and Isuzu.

I am currently re-building the bridge on the Nagara, so that it looks right (The kit is an old Fujimi, which is as bad as some of the older Hasegawa kits).

I am wondering whether to re-build the forward gun tub for the quad 13mm on the bridge. It would be in styrene, not brass that I did this (as I have more experience working with tiny, fiddly styrene pieces.

It would obviously not be as detailed as the 1/350 build here (with the drilled out gussets, and such).

I wonder if I should re-build all of the gun emplacements? I have some Flyhawk IJN AA weapons (individual, quad, and triple 25mm guns - type 96???). I am just wondering if this is the kit to use them on. But I doubt that a new Nagara is going to come out for the pre-'43 WWII fit.

This has been very inspirational.

Hey Matt depending kn what time frame you are building her as to what gun tub goes on the front of the bridge. She had the circular tub with the use 13 till her retrofit in May of '42. After that she had the rectangular tub with two twin 13s.

I am doing a post-may '42 build. The ship is for the Guadalcanal Naval Battles.

I had pretty much figured that out, and I have re-built the bridge of an old Fujimi Nagara, which is all kinds of messed up.

But the hull of the ship is OK, and I have plenty of aftermarket parts (I have a fortune in Nano Dread AA guns for both IJN and USN - I think they cost more than all of my current ships) to make her look better (I just hope that, without an airbrush, I can do justice to her with the paint job).

I am basically building a 1/700 version of the same ship you are building.

Only much of the additional parts will be styrene, instead of PE (I have a ton of really thin styrene, and I have a few drilling jigs made to make gussets).

My only real headache is in getting the windows into the compass bridge. My current plan is to take a saw to the front of the re-built bridge, and make a cut about 3/4 of the way back, and then fill the cut with a piece of styrene that has windows cut into it.

With each side basically shaped like:

__|___|___|___|___|___|__

This will not allow me to do the inside of the compass bridge. I will save something like that for another ship that is put together better than this one.

I need to figure out how to get canvas wrappings for PE railings. I want to do that on the back of the bridge, where I have seen a few photos of the Nagara-class ships with their bridge like this.

I don't suppose that you could post an image of the Front of the bridge that isn't in shadow, so that I can get a look at the portholes and the two Type 93 dual 13mm's on the front, please?

You have the platform that I saw earlier in the thread, don't you?

You don't need to attach it, or anything, but just an image of the front of the Bridge, with the platform sitting next to it would be enough.

In working on the 1/700 Bridge, I have discovered that Fujimi made it about 10' to 15' or so too wide, and the edges of it come almost to the side turrets. I do have a .010" facing on each side of the bridge from my re-build, but that is not enough added width to crowd the side turrets.

And, looking at your bridge.... I am starting to get the feeling that simply building from scratch a proper bridge (It's just a box with a trapezoidal wedge on the front of it) would be a better idea.

SOAP BOX INBOUND!

I have run into a few errors by either Aoshima, Flyhawk or both.

The number 2 main battery attachment point is either too close to the bridge or the brass barrel is too long hence it is hitting the bridge.

Aoshima's instructions on where to put the paravanes do not fit in anyway humanely possible.

Aoshima's instructions for what part to use for the officer gig are not the part Flyhawk made the PE for. The one Flat hawk decided to do will not fit on the boat deck.

In a word: FRUSTRATION!!!!!
