Well, the bridge roof is now installed and is ready for painting. The roof is reinforced just behind the aft bridge bulkhead so that it will take the gun fire control radar (Owl Screech I think). I hope to make the FC radar "trainable" from my controller/arduino board. Too come later though

Next step is to paint the hull ready for the sail day coming up soon.

looks good mate! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Did you end up glazing the windows or leaving them open?

Cheers Bruce

Well the Sail Day 23rd is looming up fast :eyes_spinning:

As promised erlier, I am now working on the painting of the hull and ship side. Here is a series of photographs taken over the last three days showing thge progress of the preparation and the beginning of the painting. So far the prep has taken the o of thr time. Heavy grit wet and dry sand, touch up with fillers, wet and dry sand again, followed by four coats on the ship side, two on the hull.

Enjoy.

The next steps will be: wet sand (1200 grit) of the entire hull. One more coat on the ships side , light sand and polish.

Paint the hull (Mat black, two coates separated by a light wet sand (1200 grit) then a final sand and polish. There will also be a white pin strip at the waterline.

Here is how I set my waterline level.

Enjoy

A quick request for help. Any good mehtods for securing the superstructure to the hull in such a way that it is secure during sailing, but is relatively easy to remove for transport and work etc? All suggestions welcomed.

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

great job so far, glad to see you continuing this rather rare subject for an RC ship. Good looking too!

As for superstructure, depends in what kind of condition you sail, you could use double sided velcro tape? Or as I did on the Chaconia, use a door magnet from a cabinet. They're quite cheap and hold well. Depending on the coaming structure around your entrance and the fit with your superstructure you can screw the flat metal plate on the hull and glue the magnet to the superstructure. I only use one on the forward part of the superstructure and it holds. Basically it doesn't shift due to the coaming and the magnet just holds it down. Lifting it is easy since the magnet releases when you tilt it forward.

Hi Neptune,

I like the idea of the forward magnet, plus the inside coaming, I will explore this some more.

Well, the hull painting is 90% complete. :woo_hoo: I am quite pleased with the hull overall. The pin stripe is a little over scale, but will give a really nice prescence when she is on the water.

Here is the final series of pics, sorry for the focus on the last shot.

Enjoy

Hello Andrew,

Very nice looking hull there! Love the colours, too.
As Bruce said, any more progress on her? It's almost a year now... :please:

I have been in contact with Andrew and he is dealing with some ongoing family stuff and has not done much lately on the model...

If I get a chance after work I will post some pix from his other buildlog over on TF72site (which you guys can't see anymore due to the way the rejigged website was setup...) of his Superstructure updates n such.

Cheers Bruce

Hello everyone,

Slowly getting myself back on track now and beginning to find some time to think about modelling.

Due to the kindness of some close friends I have acquired a new desk top 3D Printer and it has given me some excellent motivation back towards my Slava :D I am finding the 3D printing really facinating and not to difficult to master, though I think I can probably refine my settings a little more, but that wil come with practice.

Below you will see some partly finished examples of my work to date - Owl Screech FC radar, Bell (something?) Radome and the Volna Radome. Pretty happy with these, I am not sure how I would have gone about making them bfore 3D arrived.
