Thank you guys!!! Like Jason (Channel) pointed out: the end is nearing, there won't be year 7 , that's for sure! :lol_3:
Elevator 2, rigging, flags, radar-mast detail, and decaling 18 more planes .

Oh, and Marijn sure noticed: the deck-crew.... (can't find a "smiley" that's shooting itself in the head, otherwise this is where I would insert one) Those little figures might do me in :eyes_spinning: :eyes_spinning:

Well, it is gonna be an exciting finish line for sure!

Thanks all of you for following, and the very inspirational kind words!! :wave_1:

Done with the yellow gear, onto elevator #2, where I started hacking off some stuff that wasn't installed correctly 2 years ago... 2 YEARS AGO! OMG... it is shocking I actually have a life :lol_pound: and a wife :lol_3:

Cheers: Laci

Laci awesome work, and NO YEAR 7!!!!!!!, what are we going to do???? I wish I had a spare carrier for you, but I'm in need of more myself after I crushed most of my NIMITZ Class a while back, I know it is going to be hard for you to actually find that there is nothing more to do to your NIMITZ and see it all incased in glass, but at the same time a since of relief that it will be done, and then you and the wife can come down here to NC and help me build my diorama!!!! :heh:

Man, your build is in year 6, mine will start year 3 this coming May, if I can keep up on the build!?!?!?!? Man, can you believe my build is nearing year 3 already? Where does the time go? You would think that someone who has nothing to do but build would have the thing done in no time at all.

Again look forward to seeing this beast completed and all the pictures and awards it will receive.
Congrats there buddy!!!!!

Hello gentleman!! Thank you for cheering me on!! There is almost a tiny spark of light at the end of the tunnel ( I think see it, could be just insects that glow in the dark )
Doug: I made a reference to you a while back, I just know you will outdo me somehow ( I figured you'll put Diesel engines in your tractors ( haha).

Blake!!! Good to hear from you!! I am glad you ate still checking in periodically! When is your next post going to start?

Jim ! Thanks for the invite to NC! Never been, and it would be awesome to meet more of you guys in person! As for the small carrier: I do remember your little mishap with the shelf:( I was just looking for a 720 scale cv-61 , or any Forrestal class carrier. No big deal, I probably shouldn't be buying more models until I built all the ones in the stash :)

Gabor: ez Eddig valoban egy Jo ev, de Latom te sem alszol a baberjaidon!

Working on elevator 2 started with demolition. At least it was a planned demolition thank god!
Happy building everyone!!

Cheers: Laci

Laci,

Right now you'd feel right at home here as we have had a cold front come through and left us with about 4" of snow, not my idea of fun, makes my shop COLD!!!!! Also, my LHS carries a USS SARATOGA CV-60 (1/720) scale all the time so when you get ready let me know and I'll get it and send it to you. It's the same kit I used to modify into the USS RANGER CV-61 way back on my diorama build page. Although you might find it cheaper on EBAY, I think he get about $30.00 for it.

I haven't been able to get anything done today as my heater in the shop could NOT keep up with the cold. So, maybe tomorrow I can get in there and start actually laying out the base area and see how that goes, I have a lot of 3-D references to draw ideas from, it is going to be neat.

Best regards to Mrs. Laci, and still loving your NIMITZ.

WOW! I finally got to take a look at this thread. This is really impressive and the detail to the airwing for me is what sets it apart. So often guys will get something wrong with it, either with squadrons or placement or camo in regards to time frame. You nailed it... I;m glad you liked the tractors I sent and if you like it hot then the 115's we have been having is just what the doctor ordered. So Yes please move to Az so you can help me with my Nimitz :thumbs_up_1: in her 77/78 configuration..

Cheers
Jim Clark

Yeah, Laci, do I need to take a trip up there to Whitehorse and figure out where you've been?

Hope you're well my friend.

Hi gentlemen!

Sorry about my absence for a while.. I am very grateful for the support, and the fact that some of you don't let my-so far biggest- project be forgotten! I got bogged down in the details again..I know , I know: I should just finally slap that island on there , paint up 3-4 crew members, and finally call it complete!

- I still do not have decals for my Intruders and Corsairs. And this is a pretty big road block. Aside from mark Tutton ( at starfigter) I don't know anyone else who would even consider taking on custom decals, and have the quality that he has. I am getting pretty tempted to start making my own decals, but : all that equipment and time for a single sheet? And I don't even have a clue on how to use a computer program for creating decals... I have all the decals for my next 10 projects for the next 15 years, so I would literally be learning all that stuff for ONE decal sheet.... so there is this, aaand:

- The Island: "unfortunately" I acquired great reference photos AFTER I built the island, and it turns out there are a bunch of extra things I need to add, and some things need to be modified.(Heavily). Compared to the rest of the ship, the island is pretty inaccurate in its current state. But this part is easy, just need to sit down and do it.

-elevator number 2. This needs the least amount building time, but the most amount of thinking and precision, for it just needs the cables added, but I need those cables straight, perfectly vertical, and not to be 2 dimensional. Again, I have a plan, I just need to glue my ass in the chair, and work on this elevator!!

But then life happens, and I finally left a very stressful job for one where I am happy now. Plus the local airline I work for on the side finally secured all the funds and the hangarspace for me to paint one of their Hawkers, so a lot of my "spare time" has been going into that. That's nothing like modelbuilding :eyes_spinning: :eyes_spinning:

BUT BUT!! the real culprit is that darn Vincennes!! :lol_3: :lol_3: Any spare time I have, that thing just eats it up!!! It is superdetailed, so a LOT of research goes into it. It is going extremely slow, but on the end I plan to have a CG, like no one else's!

Despite all my bitching one thing is for sure: This coming winter the NIMITZ is going to be complete, even if without the A-7 and A-6s until I figure out something for the decals. If anyone has suggestion regarding those, I am totally open for ideas.

Thank you again for checking in. I really hate to disappoint, but by the end of the year I will have at least 2 ships to present!!!

(plus its kinda half-ass summertime in the North pole, and I like the sun!)

Cheers, and happy modeling ( if that's what you do instead of being outside :heh: )

Laci

Keep plugging away Laci. Your updates keep us all going. In the meantime however, how about some shots of the Vincennes ?

Hi Simon!

I couldn't hold it off anymore, so please feel free to take a look at my new Vincennes post ( after approval from the moderators) :wave_1:

Thank you for the very kind words. I feel a bit ashamed for quitting work on the Nimitz for soo long.... I will be working on my attitude. And the ship of course!

Cheers: Laci

Hey Laci, I still amaze on your build. I just bought 1/350 J.F.K. and I'm backing dating her to 72'. If could get her to look half as good as your build I will be happy. Happy Modeling!

Hello gentlemen!!

Thank you for the kind words guys, and thank you for not forgetting about my biggest project so far, although it may seem like at times that I stopped working on her entirely.... I slowed right down, that's for sure, but some of my spare time also goes to the Vincennes, which has a pretty complete hangar now, so updates are due on that one..

I did start back at the Nimitz airwing, because it looks like I will be getting some custom decals for my Corsairs , designed by a very talented friend of mine. It is now sent to Mark Tutton at starfighter decals for printing. In the meantime I started assembling the last of the aircraft, bringing the number of A-7s to 16.

Unfortunately I have some bad news: the tiny weapons won't be made, at least not by anyone I know. Those guys in Europe totally dropped the ball: stopped responding after sending some very promising emails. ( What the #$@^???, right?!) At least they didn't cost me any money, but they wasted my time, and ultimately lied about making the weapons. Sorry guys, I really tried. If anyone out there has any connections that could land the tiny armament for us, I still have photos and measurements to share....

And speaking about sharing: My wife and I made it to the Seattle Sea Fair this year, and the Navy brought LHD-4 USS Boxer, which I photographed very extensively. Only the exterior ( long story) but if anyone is interested , I have over 150 pics! ( My next 350 scale ship is an LHD)

Hey Red: could you please send some pictures of your JFK and the contents of the box?! I am suuuper intrigued!!! And I would like your opinion about it too. I am glad all these different modern carriers are available now.

I wont have any pictures of my progress for a couple of weeks yet, but as my secondary jobs wind down, I am getting back in this business full speed. I want this to be the last year for the Nimitz!!!

Cheers, and thank you for cheering me on!!

Laci
