Just completed my Trumpeter 1/700 USS New Orleans (1942) kit. Supplemented the kit with 3d models 5"/25 secondary battery and 1.1" and 20mm AA guns along with the Tom's Modelworks New Orleans Class photo etch set.

Enjoyed the build and the kit and decided to go with a full hull as opposed to waterline look.

My second submission after the Yorktown and Hammann display

Enjoy!

She looks really nice!

I have a couple of this class (and manu) in my stash. How did it go together? Any tips?

Thanks, she goes together really well actually.

I don't use an airbrush, just brush and spraycans so I had to plan out each step pretty well before assembly. I tried to assemble all the super structures and funnels prior to attaching to the hull/decking. Spots I knew I would have trouble placing ladders (such as those under the catapults) were areas to go against the instructions. Other areas, it said to drill holes and I just simply sanded off the pieces with the pegs and glued direct to what the piece would sit on (turret top rafts are an example, or simply made sure one peg fit and cut/sanded the other).

If you end up utilizing the deckhouse underneath the searchlight stand (Tom's Modelworks comes with two styles of the platform) you'll end up sanding the deckhouse down in order to fit underneath the platform so that the platform legs can reach the deck. You'll also trim the overhang on the sides down a bit.

Best of luck, and again, thanks!

Very sweet! Makes me want to break open the box on my 1/350 San Fran. Shame the heavy and light cruiser classes are so under represented in plastic, at least so far.

Thanks a lot for the tips.

I also meant to mention that the keel block stand looks really nice too.

When I first looked at her, I thought she was 1/350th. That's a very crisp and clean build.

Great job!

Thank you very much everybody!!

Definitely encouraging to continue building...just as to which direction (country, ship, etc) that is a whole can of worms (and I am sure not the first to encounter the issue)

Most excellent work. I love American treaty cruisers and you did the New Orleans justice.
