Many thanks for having a look and for your questions and comments!
More progress images today. Just a few details left to complete along with crew figures before some light weathering and subtle washes followed by rigging.
I have temporarily bolted the model to a scrap piece of wood to serve as a working stand.
All of the photos today were taken in direct sunlight. Most of the details and fittings are now fixed in place. I slightly damaged the foremast ladder just before taking these photos and will have to make a minor repair later.
Your questions and comments are always welcome!
Cheers,
Bill

Long view from the bow which nicely captures the classic lines of Shell Welder.
Overhead view.
View from the stern quarter.
Mid ship view showing railing and ladders.
Looking forward showing recently installed inclined ladders and railings.
Close up details. This area is now complete and awaiting weathering and washes.
Stern view showing ladder and davits. Final railing pieces need to be added yet along with some other details and lifeboats.
Another view.
Close up of recently added ladders and railings. The 1/125 railings from Tom's Modelworks needed careful planning to get them to fit decently.
Several photos of Shell Welder show lengths of fuel/oil hoses suspended in racks on the railings along the upper mid deck area. The kit does not include these parts, but I think they are an interesting detail so I scratch built racks and hose sections as shown in the following photos.
Thanks again for looking, don't hesitate to add your questions or comments!

Hose sections cut from flexible black nylon tube with brass detail. Crew figure for scale.
Racks for hose sections attached to railings. These were made from scrap sections of photo etch shaped to match photos of Shell Welder.
Dry fit of hose sections on racks. some adjustments needed to get the right look.
Looks like the kit can be bought for the hull only and throw out just about everything else, and rebuild it from the deck up as a 1/144 tramp steamer, or coaster. Fictitious steamer in neutrality colors being ordered for stop and search by 1/144 Uboat.
I imagine that this kit could be adapted to a generic coastal vessel with enough scratch work. The hull is actually not bad and a few of the other parts can be used, but in general this kit is very poorly molded and requires a great deal of effort to build a decent Shell Welder. For those that enjoy scratch building and a challenge, this is the kit for you. I am relieved to be almost finished and am satisfied with the results, but I will not try this kit a second time.......
Thanks everyone for your kind words! I decided to stop with a subtle black wash and not apply a heavy weathering treatment before sealing everything in clear flat. I plan to finish the last few small details and bring this project to completion in the next few days....
