Eduard, that's the Amazon link suitable for here in the U.K

the kit is like a 1/700 Tamiya, i.e it doesn't have many parts....it's nothing like as complicated as the 1/350, the only awkward bit will be rebuilding the support beams under the flight deck to the hull side.

the plastic deck looks far too good to hide under a Wooden deck, esp if you're going to paint it pure black, you should see the hull side, the plating/degaussing strip/ Davits, they look beautiful...this is one hell of a model

I would strongly suggest buying here. It's the only place I have seen that claims to have this set. It's sold out everywhere else.

Pontos made it, but it's sold under Hasegawa themselves; Hobby Search also has it in stock: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10253373

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hasegawa-Scale- ... awa+yamato

this Amazon Advert allows you to Zoom right in on the hull side, take a good look at the Davits etc.......all of this is moulded in place.....it even has plating on BOTH rudders !!!! the hull is in 2 pieces with crossbeam bulkheads to give rigidity.

i found the Tamiya kit far too fiddly and complicated........Hasegawa must have been aware of this and thus built their kit very similar to a 1/700, but is it too simple ?........ i dont think so because they've managed to keep the detail and sharpness very high

i'm looking forward to building this sometime next year

this set doesn't have the support beams under the flight deck, but it does have the deck reels, because the moulded reels on the deck don't look as good as the guns or the vents etc...

you'll deffo need the 15 metre rangefinder too, because that looks really bad, you might need to detail the Aircraft Hanger area as well, because that looks similar to the old Tamiya kit.

finally, the kit and PE do not have the beams that prevent the superstructure guns from training too far left or right, this is a bad cock up, so these and the deck support beams will need to be scratch built.....typical Yamato kit!

so there's a bit of work here, but at least the hull and all the rest look easy to do

Typical Hasegawa Kit. Lots of molded detail but nothing that makes the kit standout. When you mold all your detail, you don't get a real perspective of realism. You also get fat detail that in most cases you have to thin out and sand down or sand out and replace. You have to put too much effort into it. I'll pass.

As a side note: Notice you can't move any of the deck AA guns because their all molded into the deck.

yes to a degree you're right, the worst area looks like the deck reels, followed by the deck gun shields that are too heavy looking, (these need sanding thinner on one side) but the latest Tamiya kit looks the same too.... because these kits only look in true scale with Photo Etch.

yea this kit is her final mission only ( that is if it's correct because i haven't checked yet)

i dont think one can complain considering it's only 35, because it's way better than the old Tamiya Yamato at 60 and roughly the same as the new tool at 160.

if we're talking about sanding down and filling/ loosing surface detail.... then look no further than the Tamiya hull that's in 5 pieces, because at least Hasegawa got this right

One thing, however, that Tamiya did get right with the retool (if memory serves me), is that they made their kit as an optional waterline display.

Personally I have grown to dislike "full hull" renditions of Yamato, because that is not really how the ship looked in life - in order to fully appreciate her sleekness and her sublime lines, to me, it is necessary to see her rendered as a waterline display ....

yes, plus a full hull display model can look odd with weathering....especially below the waterline, weathering looks far better if it's in the sea.

unfortunately Yamato looks wrong WITHOUT weathering, it has no sense of the real ship at all, it just looks like a plastic toy. WW2 Aircraft look unrealistic without weathering too, in fact they look totally wrong !

now this Yamato Diorama looks brilliant, it's perfect, it almost looks like a real life photo !!!!

An incredible diorama, I agree - best I have seen that is not photo shopped ...

*BUT*

There are several GLARING ERRORS in that reconstruction:

First and most obvious, it has the rear crane tower - which of course was removed for Ten-Ichi-Go in 1945 (since the AA turret configuration at midships indicates this is supposed to be the April 1945 version);

Secondly, if you look at the rear photos of this model on the same website, you see that the number, shield shape and configuration of the deck AA guns/tubs is wrong and outdated (the model was probably built a few years ago) ....

yes plus it has no sandbags.

i think the wooden base is painted as per the waves/hull wash and the colour shines though the clear Gel which is supposed to be quite deep.....i'll have to study how to do it next year, mine had Cotton Wool, but the sea was painted which looked wrong.

i've noticed something, her deck is gloss (wet) and so is the Superstructure, this gives good light definition and realism...... he's sprayed over the entire model with thinned down Gloss Lacquer, very clever ....... about 80% thinners %20 Lacquer.......but that might also be Satin Lacquer

because the one thing i've noticed is she looks wrong in pure Matt, it's either Satin or a damp cold steel....interesting

when the superstructure is painted flat matt you dont notice shadows/curved areas or much structural definition, it's just a grey blob.

thanks, the sea running over the bow beck is brilliant, this brings Yamato to life, as said she's finished in semi gloss.

interesting deck colour, it's blotchy dark brown/black......rather than pure black all over, the actual ww2 photos are very grainy, unfortunately, in the photo the sea is calm and the decks are dry...........DAMN IT

sod that i'd much rather have it as per his, because there's no doubt she looks far better in rough sea than a full hull display model on a wooden stand.......the Hasegawa at 22'' long is just right for saving space at home.....the Tamiya is too big and the 1/700 way too small

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation ... l_1945.jpg

that Sea tutorial link needs a lot of studying, wow it's complicated

http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery ... MATO05.htm

that looks more like the sea on her final mission, but to me it doesn't look exciting enough.

he's reduced her hull weathering, but it still looks extremely realistic, almost like a real photo........he's shown the sky and made Yamato look slightly out of focus/ correct lighting

thanks, my guess is that Yamato received many more bomb and torpedo hits than is mentioned

Iowa would have been far easier to sink, but would have had far better more accurate AAA.... if Yamato had met the American Battleships (no Carriers present), then she would have met the same fate as Bismark, a shattered wreck that was virtually impossible to sink.

Yamato would always have been sunk, there are no improvements to her design that could have saved her, because the Americans would have kept on attacking her till she finally sank.

not enough destroyers/aircraft support ? NO, because they wouldn't have lasted long either, she was just too big and too easy to hit.

Yeah, the torpedo diagram prepared by Robert Lundgren with my input that you can see towards the end of my Yamato gallery tells the story. Upwards of 20 torpedo hits and probably even more bombs hit Yamato in just 2 hours. As Yoshida's first-person account so vividly describes, it was hell on earth to be on board during that deluge of ordnance...
