Yamato done I learnt so much, now to apply lessons for what I want to be an absolutely spot on build Yamato philosophy was everything would be scratch built, Kirishima will be, if I can buy a bit, I will.
Once again, a log of the build, warts and all. However, (lesson learnt) I intend to use this log also very much as a working log, planning document, shopping list, everything I also intend to track very carefully the costs.........
If I remain employed next year, I should have a good budget to work with! as our 25th anniversary cruise will be out of the way.....(the cost of women seems to impede important things like model building far in excess of what is acceptable!) (just kidding)
The plan: A workshop clean out!!!..LOL A false ceiling into the workshop.........its too bloody hot in there! Build a cradle, bench, transporter for the hull.......(and not leave that to last!) take delivery of the hull Stock up on every shape of styrene before building, so much time lost for lack of stock on Yamato Commence stocking up everything else I need as per shopping list Do the propulsion first! Do a big, fully accessible everything lift out able deck! (I have planned that already) Get the ballast right, and all electrics right Do extensive basin trials at this stage
Then, get into the build I am planning lights stern, port, stbd, mast, in the bridge, and some port holes Turrets to turn, and barrels to elevate (I have confidence to do that now) Director fwd to turn Catapult to turn
Superstructure to be removable
The shopping list: I have ordered a hull from Tim at southern cross model, and its paid for (1150 dollars), but don't expect it until realistically until the middle of next year 4 motors shafting and props ( If I can get loyal hanna again I will,) proper couplings. grrrrrr I plan 4 channel RC for propulsion The other 9 channel for all the other stuff! 2 RC's is better, one for you to drive, one for your friend who you have pressed ganged to help move her to play with! servos: mini...6 at least (gun elevation, catapult, director) servos metal: 1....steering: a BIG ONE servos for turrets...4 big ones
Will again go for 4 ESC's exactly same as Yamato
I need lots of LED lights Guard rails........what I used on Yamato were great, lots of people "where did ya get them?" Ships boats: I have found a seller of 1/72 Japanese ww2 ships boats...they look good at a good price he also does the 25 MM guns ( I am over making them, but have a few left over from Yamato) Styrene, I am going for 1MM thick, thinner where possible. I have found a bulk supplier Deck planks.........I probably will go and search for an alternative supplier.......depends . Lesson, buy enough for the whole ship in one batch
Lots of thin wire needed .032 mm (before I forget the size!) Lesson, the main deck must be good 4 mm marine ply! deck fittings for securing, lifting out the deck Timber to support the deck, and bulkheads PVA glue! I need a new Jigsaw! I need lots and lots more clamps! Fittings various, oh, so many fittings I now know about and wish I'd used last time And finally, Plans
For Father day I am receiving two books from Profile Moriensky, that polish plans provider I purchased his plans (110 dollars)
They are simply superb Right now I am using a favour up, to try to get them laminated If that falls through, that's the next big expense, about 70 dollars a sheet, times 6 sheets (ouch)
Sorry if this is a boring post, a big lesson from Yamato was I would have a solution for a problem, or I would find a supplier , and later on forget it! A lot of projects fall away, I saw Yamato through I plan , once I receive the hull, for a three year build......
Current costs Plans 110 Hull 1150 Total 1260 (too much to stop now! LOL)
