An in-box review of the Blue Ridge Models 1/350 USS Halibut SSNG-587 / SSN-587 (Resin kit) has been posted.

Mine arrived today; it was one I knew I'd kick myself if I didn't get when I could. It's one of those "you have to see it in person to believe it" kits, but the review gives you an excellent idea what to expect.

I found out the DSRV is actually a dummy. In reality it's a decompression chamber for the special ops guys.

I had a chance to look at this kit recently. It's excellent in every way. This sub really made its mark historically as a spook sub. I recently read a book called "Blind Man's Bluff: The Untold Story of American Submarine Espionage" that detailed the activities and history of this boat. I highly recommend it. If it doesn't motivate you to build this kit as a special ops sub I don't know what will. Also reading the book will give you an idea of the changes that occurred to the sub over her years of service in this role.

Should be a fun kit to build.

Dave

One of the best books I have ever read. The author was effectively giving away secrets of the silent service by writing this book and was ostracized for it.
