I've resumed some work on the secondary rangefinder.

Here's the base.

Then all the plastic details removed.

Image

Hello PE!

I glued the base plate first, then used couple of the supports dry fitted to line up the 2nd rim.
After that it was just a question of placing the other supports.

And more progress on the whole thing.

Not completed yet, also not all the parts were mentioned in the instructions but I saw them on the fret so
The fit was really good except for the front part of the rangefinder that produced a big seam right in the middle, superglue and that's that.

Whilst I'm months away from this, which parts are not mentioned or is it obvious? Also the clear piece on top, it this kit supplied? Its great to have your build as a reference.

Glad it wasn't a full month without updates! :thumbs_up_1: That's a sharp looking little structure, great work as usual from you!

The "windows" on the rangefiner right down the middle. There's molded ones there but the Pontos set provides them in PE aswell, even though there's no mention about them in the instructions.
The clear part is kit supplied.

Added the rest of the parts. Also made some additional supports out of spare PE for the catwalks.

And primed.

I was thinking about doing a model with a simple grey paint finish and leaving the brass etch unpainted, just for something different, the plastic and brass looks nice, but, once the paint is on, the detail just JUMPS out at you! Perhaps I'll think that one through again!

Splendid work.

Cheers, Jabb

The rangefinder looks very good!! Can't keep my eyes off your thread!
:thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:
P.S why would Tamiya supply the part in clear plastic?

Made some progress on the starboard side. All the closed 25s finished.
Made a batch of 40 ammo crates using the kits own ones. Placed them according to reference.
I still need about 30 more. So in total the ship will eat about 100 boxes.

Finished the last remaining forward secondary battery.

Barrels with the Pontos blast bags.

The turret.

And painted.

I left one part off the mast as it was very difficult to align it with the rest of the mast ( and I lost the same part in the aft battery ) so it was only fitting to leave it off!

I was wondering are the sandbags around the gun mounts from the kit or aftermarket?

They are resin bits from the Pontos set.

Nice work indeed mate and glad to see you back at the bench. Those masts of the secondaries turned out to be too frustrating for me, especially alignment-wise. Glad to see you managed to pull it off though!

Hey guys!

Finally managed to do something done!

I finished the construction of the tower.
The fit was mainly pretty good, only some light filing and sanding after gluing, though the back side seams needed some super glue to make it nice.
I followed the instructions and only added some extra rails etc. All the port holes were drilled and etches applied.
I also rigged the tower as it would have been harder later. I used some new rigging material aswell.
