Hi Tom. Any hope of getting a fore and aft superstructure conversion for 1/350 Graf Spee into Admiral Scheer (1940)?

Great subject, would love to do it, but I have no good references (authoritative, dimensioned) from which to design a conversion, unfortunately.

[edit: DavidP just sent some plans. I'll study them and see what can be done.]

M. A.,

Your products are really awesome. I am very curious if you would be willing to make a 1/350 Gearing-class bridge and helo structure adaptation representing the FRAM modernization of the Gearing-class. That would answer a desire Gearing-class builders have had ever since the Gearing came out!

Thanks for the consideration, mate! I look forward to your consideration! :woo_hoo:

Dave

His famous commerce raiding cruise, Oct 1940 to April 1941.
I may scrap that effort and pursue the project in 1:350 if conversion superstructures of the quality we have come to expect from Steve were available.

Thanks so much for the compliment! I haven't got any good Gearing FRAM 2D drawings to design from. Please help with research. I'd like to do a FRAM Sumner, too, specifically USS Laffey.

The drawings look like they will work. Project added to the queue. When the time comes, as always, I'll need help from you experts to get the design right. I know more about do-it-yourself brain surgery than I do about Admiral Scheer's details and my references are weak. Once I get the basic shapes matching the drawings David sent, I'll post renderings here for your review.

Please be advised that it will be a little while before I get to these projects. The queue is pretty long. Here it is: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=164638

The Pennsylvania class items in your future products, is some of the parts for turning a Arizona kit into a late war Pennsylvania?

Aye, Cap'n, precisely. Although a good kit of a late-war Pennsy exists in 1/700 now, I hope that the new design will please many who have been wanting a late-war Pennsy in scales larger than 1/700.

I bet this will come out a lot sooner than Dragon's 1/700 Pennsylvania repop. I would love to do this in 1/350.

And very soon, you shall, in 1/350. 1/429 + 1/720, too for Revell, and 1/200 for Trumpeter. Big thanks to a modeler on this site (Chad!) for providing accurate Navy drawings from which to make the designs.

Have you considered making conversion pieces for Dragon's 1/350 Gearing reflecting a FRAM II DD?

Perhaps even as much as a full super structure for Gyatt?

Keep up the fantastic work! It's really awesome. I look forward to if you may be able to cue Gearing FRAM parts into your build schedule.

There's always optimism somewhere! What is the late war Pennsy's parts consist of?

Complete forward superstructure and funnel. Probably not the 01 level (very big = too expensive to sell).

Any plans for the mini tower, AA platform on the stern, and main bodies for turrets 2 and 3 with their 20mm gun tubs as well?

We are very happy to announce that a set of accurately shaped and detailed North Carolina BB-55 class funnels, has been added to the catalog.

When viewed from above, some kits' funnels are inaccurately teardrop-shaped. These 3D-printed acrylic funnels are correctly parallel-sided with a gently curving aft contour, just like the real funnels.

Features:
- open smoke pipes that pass entirely through the funnel
- accurate interior compartmentalization
- correctly shaped funnel cap (not round like Trumpeter's)
- steam pipe detail in the funnel top's service platform

Happy Modeling!
Steve

Sounds like a good idea. I can make a pair of turrets with the tubs and associated ammo lockers. I'll do it when I design the Pennsy '44 products.

A set of Oerlikon tubs is available separately in several scales, now, for those who need some right away.
