Triomphante is one of the La Galissonniere class central battery ironclads built between 1860s to 1870s. It is a wooden-hulled ship with iron plating above water where not armoured. 4 240mm guns are in its central battery and the remaining 2 240mm were in barbettes. Triomphante and La Galissonniere joined French Far East Squadron and took part in the Sino-French War. In the battle of Shipu, Chinese frigate Yuyuan and the composite sloop Chengqing were sunk by a French squadron including Ironclad Triomphante and Bayard. After the war, Triomphante was condemned on 18 July 1896 and sold for scrap in 1903.

This is phantastic! I'm glad to see more and more ships from the golden age of ironclads afloat! But there are still so many missing...

I scratchbuilt it and cast it into resin, as Ironclad Bayard I posted before.

French ironclads are favorites of mine. I've built a couple (Redoutable and Courbet). I saw your Bayard earlier. I never thought I'd see a model of that ship. Down the road, I may build the Amiral Duperre, but may have problems with the gun hoods. Hope to see more of your work!

Impressive.

That's the oddest quarterdeck I have ever seen. Was it designed like that, or an adaptation?

If you google 'cuirasse victorieuse' you will find pictures that show it. It looks like a support for the mizzen boom.

The (lower) balcony at the stern is too big, it should be the same width all the way. The tumblehome of the hull continues above the balcony all the way to the deck above, according to the plans. It does not flare out, like the model. What looks like a flare on the sternpost is actually the vertical support for the outrigger yard.

The deck above is too large, it's edge should follow the balcony below, not overhang it.

This deck is also too high, it should be below the level of the aft bridge according to the plan, not above it.

Hej Abdur,
Your work is very impressive, and I am thankful for every ironclad laid down.
Hopefully You can fix those issues mentioned above without loss of elan...
All the best!

I have already ordered one and I hope that additional ships of that period will be made as kits!

Hi Abdur,
just received your Triomphante. Apart from the oversized mizzen deck (which can be easily corrected) it is a very nice looking kit. I am missing the clearly drawn instructions of the Bayard kit though. Pictures are never as clear as drawings in my humble opinion. Otherwise a very nice effort. Hope you will do more 19th century French battleships in the future.
Cheer,
Pieter

Got my kit today. Very nice!

I hope that there will additional kits of French ships from that period. Perhaps the Alma class? Atalante also participated in the French-Chinese War.
