Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
I read somewhere that some ships with 1 CIWS are getting a second during refits. If I was doing a later FltIIa I would go for BAINBRIDGE the pirate killer....plus if you are thinking of redoing aft SS adding the RMS hanger would not be that hard.

Ah, now there's a thought! Captain Phillips one. There was some talk on here about some of those ships having the RMS hangar sealed up?? But a cool idea, need to look at getting plans and stuff for the RMS then.

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
The plans Rob has show the variations between flat funnel top and early funnels and the RMS hanger (which I would convert to a SpecOps hanger if I was in charge of USN...). Also has a really good mast drawing too...
I have a copy of Rob's plans plus the APS plans and there is some variation in the Angles of the hanger roof deck between the two.
Cheers Bruce

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
That sounds about right! Haha nothing ever seems to be the same with plans, but I'm going to assume ribs are more accurate than the one from APS. It seems strange to me that the guy that started my AB missed such a big thing, seems to be quite noticeable to me. Unless he just wanted to take a shortcut. The rest seems to be quite good but again will wait to compare to the plans. The shaft a frames also look like there too far aft - very close to the rudders. Though from looking at photos of the real ships the ones from APS are far too large.

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
Most people won't notice that the rudders are longer than they should be, All the Oz built Burkes I have seen running have all handled superbly so I think the longer rudder is a good thing. I had my CGN36 rudders made by GT Sitek and they are slightly longer than they should be and I really enjoy how she steers...much better at slow speeds too!! You have to remember the original APS plans and running set was made from info available at the time they where drawn up almost 16 years ago.
You will find when buying half started stuff that people all do things differently!! plus as long as she looks right above the waterline then the rest don't matter!!
Cheers Bruce

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
No absolutely agree haha it does look from the closer distance of the props and rudders the steering should actually handle quite well. Am tempted to see if I can replicate the new designed rudders that some of the latest AB's have with the curve on the aft end of the rudders to see what difference it would make. Though a lot of work for what might not make much of a difference scale wise. It's a shame there's no absolute design released on the flight iii's seen a few 3D mock ups which seem easy to do but of course like the AWD's until ones actually built...

I can save you the trouble mate Russ French can make em for you.....Scott got some for his USS Spruance DDG111 just email him about a price, he also does the mini typhoons and some other bits for the main mast.Perth_shipyard wrote: Am tempted to see if I can replicate the new designed rudders that some of the latest AB's have with the curve on the aft end of the rudders to see what difference it would make. Also stacks of good Photo etch now available for DDG51s from Scale warship in UK.

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
Ah brilliant! Yeah I used Russ's fittings for the AWD and they are great to work with.
I've actually ordered most of the PE from scale warship for the AB's. The flight deck tracks and tie downs plus the Aegis radar sheet. They've also got the name plates in PE but only a few ready. Once I've decided finally on the ship I'll send them an email about when they could produce a new sheet. Their website isn't the easiest to use anymore, used to be much easier to navigate and they had in the past depth marks in PE also. They would be great with the name plates to give the proper raised look.

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
Over on the Main Forum "MikeyBugs" is looking at maybe 3D printing the USC-38 & WSC-6 domes to update the Arleigh Burke kits. They look good to me, but perhaps some of the DDG-51 class experts might want to check them out for accuracy.

If anyone could consult with examining the accuracy of the models, it would help.

Which 1/350 Arleigh Burke from Trumpeter would be best for building USS Decatur DDG-73? Thanks
Planned projects

Only Hopper.
Cole has a pipe under the main bridge and does not match the original. For the construction of Cole and others thus choose Hopper
So for the construction of Decatur select only Hopper.

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
The Hobby Boss kits are the newest ones and the most accurate, as well as detailed. There are issues with some of the Dragon versions, mainly the wrong hangar length - it should have been discussed earlier in this thread.

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
I think the radar sets I made, the USC-38 and WSC-65, are way over scale. I just got a 1/700 set in and they dwarf the bridge of a 1/700 Dragon Arleigh Burke kit I have. Does anyone know the height from base to top of these radar housings?

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
Have all four Arleigh Burke (Donald Cook, Ross, Porter, and Carney) of the 6th fleet now Sea Ram launchers instead of the after Phalanx?
USS Donald Cook:

The decoy launchers midships I had also not yet seen on a Arleigh Burke.

They all should be Phalanx Block 1B forward, 11-cell SeaRAM aft.maxim wrote:Interesting. Only one rear the after funnel or also one in front of the bridge?
