Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
Only two ships that I have seen have the Ram launcher aft and they are DDG 64 and 78. DDG 51 thru 84 have CIWS fore and aft. After that only aft for the CIWS. I have heard that they are working on a laser weapon for the forward location..navydavesof wrote:They all should be Phalanx Block 1B forward, 11-cell SeaRAM aft.maxim wrote:Interesting. Only one rear the after funnel or also one in front of the bridge?

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
By "all" I believe Dave means the four that are forward stationed at ROTA for BMD duties (in which mode they have a difficult time tracking low-flying missiles and thus need the SeaRAM as a better close-in defence system than the Phalanx).

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
Does anyone know the name for the antenna located on the Burke mast in the photo?

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
The disc at the top of it is the TACAN - tactical air navigation antenna, AN/URN-25. Not sure what the faceted cylinder below is - older ships had a direction-finding array in that location, so could be an updated version. But the conical item below the cylinder is the AS-4127a JTIDS (Joint Target Information Distribution System) antenna, or, again, an updated version of it.

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
Unfortunately I also do not know for what this antenna is. But I have recently (January 2017) some ships of the class with it and other without, e.g. USS Higgins and USS Russel:

USS Sterett and ? with:

USS Dewey without:

USS Spruance without:

USS Decatur without:

USS Howard with:

Obviously there is no link to the batch of the class.

It looks very similar to the new additions to the Canadian Halifax Class Frigates.

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
They are most likely a RDF antenna. There are 25 Burke class and 5 Ticonderoga class and 2 LPD 17 class that have these antennas as well.

Does that mean you agree, or disagree with my suggestion?Navy2000 wrote:They are most likely a RDF antenna. There are 25 Burke class and 5 Ticonderoga class and 2 LPD 17 class that have these antennas as well.

DDG 113
Just saw the pictures from her sea trials. Significant changes to top of aircraft hangar, eliminated port anchor, added new satcom dome to foreword superstructure. Is this the start of the Technology Insertion flight I wonder?

Re: DDG 113
Yep. She should have a serious deck gun on her (either a Mk45 Mod6 155mm/60 or Mk71 Mod2 8"/60), a SPQ-9B, SeaRAM aft controlling a pair of Millennium Guns (port and starboard) atop the super structure, and a Phalanx Block 1B forward. Add 8 a Harpoons amidships between the stacks.
This would be a worthy ship.

does anybody has some clear pictures or a layout of the rigging for these ships? The attachments on top of the masts for the wires are easy to find, but how and where do these enter the hull?

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
In this photo you can see where the ones for the upper yardarms terminate: http://www.navy.mil/management/photodb/ ... 8-0167.JPG
In this one, you can see the lower yardarms terminate on the flag bags deck: http://www.navy.mil/management/photodb/ ... 7-0226.JPG
I'd look for more, but gotta run. Go to this site and just type in "ddg" and look for shots that might show you the flag deck and download the high-rez version: http://www.navy.mil/gallery_search_results.asp

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
The lines on the lower yard arm are for the flags. The upper yard arm are antenna wires and you can clearly see that they go to the arms located on the forward and upper side of the bridge area.

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
Are there anybody to teach me how to change 90 cells VLS of burke class into 96 cells? The basic form was 32 + 64 = 96 ? deduction 6? for 2 crane arm, but how the 96 cells were arranged? Is crane arm removed?

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
The two cranes were omitted and replaced by three additional cells each. The cells are arranged in groups of eight (8 x 8, 4 x 8 ).
