Re: USS Missouri 1/200 (Trumpeter set + Pontos PE + Eduard P
As currently I am working on main Superstructure I have a question regarding air pressure bottles placed on walls of Superstructure. What is the color of those as for December 1945, I see different solutions used by modellers. Additionally, in my Kagero book on Mo it looks like they are yellow and green. The only problem with Kagero plans which are perfect (!) is that colors are sometimes confusing... (3d photos)
Can anyone recommend?

Re: USS Missouri 1/200 (Trumpeter set + Pontos PE + Eduard P
Something wrong with these plans. Montana was 921 feet long while Missouri was 887 for a difference of only 34 feet. Those plans make Montana look at least 100 feet longer than Mo. There was only a difference of 12 ft in the width also but the Montana plans look a lot wider.
Are they the same scale?

Lloyd,
You are right, I have checked numbers and this is wrong... This is another example why we should be carefull with copy/paste info from Internet... Sorry for that.
I have deleted photos.
Lloyd, Thank You for alertness!

Re: USS Missouri 1/200 (Trumpeter set + Pontos PE + Eduard P
As I am still at my vacation leave abroad I haven't had a chance to put any work in the model but still I am getting information and fact on the ship.
There is still an unanswered question regarding air pressure bottles placed on walls of Superstructure. What is the color of those as for December 1945, I see different solutions used by modellers. Additionally, in my Kagero book on Mo it looks like they are yellow and green. The only problem with Kagero plans which are perfect (!) is that colors are sometimes confusing... (3d photos)

Re: USS Missouri 1/200 (Trumpeter set + Pontos PE + Eduard P
Coming back to my workshop I have finished the main piece of superstructure. I have placed a wooden deck with an additional use of Tesa glue. Normally I do this with CA glue but with this size it would be almost impossible... From now on I will add additional pieces separately, one by one being glued, painted and varnished.
I have also prepared hull which is also painted and varnished.
So, what do You think?

Very nice! However, your inboard screws are reversed. Screws on the port side both turn in a CCW direction (top of screws turn away from the hull.)
Also, regarding the compressed gas bottles, There used to be a color chart located in the "Calling All Iowa Class Battleships", but it was a Photobucket image and no longer exists. The tall bottles are oxygen and the shorter ones are acetylene. Yeah, the kit only has oxygen bottles, but Model Monkey sells a 1:200 gas bottle set that has both oxygen and acetylene bottles.
Maybe some =one reading this made a screen copy of that color chart (I didn't, darn it!), and would be gracious enough to repost it.

Thank You Larry very much.
I thought I have done screws as the Trumpeter instruction says but apparently I was wrong... I will correct this for sure.
As for bottles in the set there are two sizes of bottles so I figure there are both, those with oxygen and gas. I have also posted a question in Iowa class thread. Thank You again for the advice!

Re: USS Missouri 1/200 (Trumpeter set + Pontos PE + Eduard P
So I am proceeding with my build. Next is equiping bofor mounts in a central part of Superstructure. It really is hard to go through the Pontos ammo racks...
This is how it has started:

And that is how it looks now:

It is hard for me to believe that there are not so many Missouri builders now... I can't find many build logs on such a project... Are You there, Mighty Mo Modelers?

Great job on the tubs. Yeah the racks are a bear to do. The rest of the tubs are not as bad, though the aft tubs were a challenge.

Thank You Guys!
'itchygroin' You make a good progress with Your build, I am closely watching Your thread!
Some more photos of progress with Superstructure. All of bigger elements are painted, weathered and varnished but not glued to the main superstructure. This thing is so huge it barelly fits into my photo tent!

I have also finished works on gas bottles. Their placement and size I have based on Kagero plans, as Trumpeter has done it wrong. At the same size Kagero has used wrong colours for gas bottles, so I have used information from 'Calling all USS Iowa class (BB-61) fans' (Thank You Guys!)

Finally, being sooo proud of myself
I have finished works on all 51 Oerlikons (mounted, painted, weathered and varnished)!!! They are not perfect but still look very classy!

Looking really good, Wojtek! You are doing an awesome job! I'm still working on small sub-assemblies - MK 57 gun directors right now, but it's slow going when you only get 3-4 hours a week to play. When are you gong to start on the quad Bofors? Be sure to follow Jason's tutorial in the Tips & Tricks forum when you do. It helped a lot!
Love your pictures! Keep posting them!

Thank You Guys for Your support!
So we go on further:
Now is the time for the navigation bridge. Fitting of the parts in this area of the ship is far from perfect but I have managed to put it all together. Most of the parts on the picture are in the final stage which means that the weathering is final so I will not be able to make it worse

Next, it is time to fit the ship with MK-37 Fire contorl system x 4 pieces. I must admit that it was a real pain in the a... 4 small elements and it took 4 evenings to be done...
Here is how it has been done:
First, good organization of work is the clue to success

and the 1st stage is done:

Further preparations:

2nd stage is done and now preparations of resin parts and bases for systems:

And final effect looks like this:

As for the primary fitting to the ship it looks like this:

And some additional photos:

The painting of those gas bottles has got to be perfected...

Now is the time for mounting millions of small details to the structure... It is endless work with this Big Mo but I love it!

Thank You Scott! I've learned my lesson on weathering with HMS Dreadnought the hard way...
I had an opportunity to look into Your build - Great work on Iowa!
I have one more question to fellow Mighty Mo modelers: in Trumpeter instruction there are 32 gun directors when in Pontos Add-on set there are only 30 of directors made in resin parts.
How many of those should there be?
Thanks in advance!

Going further I have finished rear funnel.

]
I have also started working on Add-on set but there comes disappointment... 1/3 of resin parts are broken! You can imagine how frustrating it can be as those parts are so tiny! Furthermore there id no sufficient no. of PE parts (for Mk-51 directors).
Nevertheless, I have started my work...
I have made all of Mk-51 directors for Bofors. Just look how small they are:

And for last, my first steps with Bofors build. I just want to share with You that I have decided not to put covers for all of those tiny details under the gun mounts. I know it shouldn't be like that but I just can't accept loosing so beatiful details...

Re: USS Missouri 1/200 (Trumpeter set + Pontos PE + Eduard P
Greetings Wotjek,
Just wanted to let you know that a lot of my MK-51 parts are broken too. I've made 2 of them, just to see what they looked like, and then went on to the MK-37s, which I'm still fussing over. Dang, there's a lot of little tiny parts, but then every sub assembly I've built so far has lots of tiny parts. When we get all done with this beast, I wonder if anybody looking at it will appreciate all the tiny intricate details that went into building it?
I love the job you did on the rear funnel. The weathering is superb.
Take care, and keep plugging along.
