Hello everyone.

I finished (98%) the assembly of the crane. Nice part of fun. As a reminder the crane includes 420 parts. For a width at the boom of 280 mm and a height of 215 mm. It weighs 315 grams.

Currently they and 4 subsets. The boom is fully assembled and welded. I still have to put plastic pellets at the level of the axes of rotation and a ladder.

On the picture you can see the stairs. In reality, the latter are on the front face of the vertical tower. To find out why, when I drew them, I was convinced that they were on this face. I'll see if I need to redo a board in 0.10. In that case, I would do it again. Otherwise, they will remain as they are.

I took advantage of it to broaden the diversity of my caisses. In the picture below you can see the diversity of dimensions. In my previous post, I had indicated that it was impossible for me to make very small cases. The proof that if I turned the box ideas and they are superb. The small family will expand by a dozen other boxes. I made the drawings of a fourth plate dedicated to these cases. For Info the largest of the boxes is 10 x 10 x 15 mm.

Image

I am super vigilent when I draw my PE pieces. At assembly and on complicated assemblies (like the vertical tower of the crane), there is the presence of voids between certain parts. Then I tried the glue product 21. And it's great.

Image

For those who discovers. You put some glue in the void, then immediately after you put on the glue the white powder. In contact with this powder, the adhesive solidifies immediately. And without waiting you can start sanding. I did like that, for the vertical tower and other place of the crane. The result and nickel.

Okay, now I'm going to attack another part of the diorama. The part of the building with small cranes on portals. I think it's going to be great. If I did not do too much BS by drawing them. Because the first draft was catastrophic.

Best Regards
Alain.

Your PE work is just fantastic Alain!!! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

I wouldn't be surprised if that bag contains sodiumbicarbonate (ordinary baking powder). Using baking powder to instantly harden superglue is an old AFV and aircraft modellers trick to fill large or difficult seams. It is especially good when the 'filler' needs to glue strongly, like to metal.
It is perfect indeed for filling PE seams. That is something many modellers neglect to do, but which IMHO makes a big difference in making something look like the real thing instead of like a piece of PE. I have used the same technique too for thickening 1/700 PE figures.

Looking forward to those small cranes on portals!

Cheers,

Marijn

Hello Marijn.

Thanks for the compliment on the PE.

At 1/350 th it is essential to fill the empty part on the folds of PE or on the edges following bonding. Otherwise you only see it on the pictures and it's a shame.

For small cranes I rode the first today. The rooms are very peties. It is therefore necessary to have tools very clean.

The rest soon.

Best regards
Alain

Hello.

I finished assembling the scene that will be on the right of the diorama.

Initially I wanted to do that big 250 ton crane and the Bismarck. And looking at the archives of the port of Hamburg I came across pictures representing one of the characteristics of this port. The loading docks of cargo ships with a multitude of small cranes.

Image

Image

Image

I have identified a dozen docks of the same type. With variants of all kinds. He used the same system for unloading and loading trains. See photos below.

Image

Falling on the picture below. I thought that such a scene would be welcome on a diorama on the port of Hamburg.

I left the next four photos to do this scene. I did not find any pictures representing the building completely. So I improvised.

And here is the result in photos

I'll see if I'll put the wharf to the end. For when I made the drawings of the building. I forgot to remove the thickness (3.2 mm) from the dock. The dumpling.

I will continue the assembly by the railway. The wagons (a good thirty) and the locos (The BR-52 drawn by MIGOU31).

I wish you a good end of the day.

Best Regards.
Alain.

Hello.

I finished assembling all the buildings and cranes of the diorama. I will have 4 cranes on wheels to be mounted which will be in front of the buildings at the bottom of the diorama.

With the completion of the dock, I was finally able to make a complete set-up to see if there were any inconsistencies or problems of arrangements. Personally, I find this superb and this has a certain mouth. Congratulations to me (LOL).

I welded the vertical part of the crane. I learned that it was not necessary to make welding on pieces already glued to others. But hey, I managed to make a very rigid set. This should do so for the integrity of the crane during transport.

I modified the building site. With the raising of the upper parts. All this framework is glued. I will paint this whole in one piece.

Now I'm going to tackle the railway bet. To see the arrangement of the rails, I will need much fewer cars than I had imagined.

Gone, now places to photos:

I am so satisfied with the set up. That I did not sort the pictures. I have posted them all.

Good end of day to you and good assembly.

Best Regards.
Alain.

Hmm....I can't see any of the pictures. When I click the link to Imageshack, it says the picture is unavailable?

Alain, very impressive work ! Will you commercialise the etched parts ?

Hamburg has a Port Museum (Hamburger Hafenmuseum) with many knowledgeable volunteers: http://www.hafenmuseum-hamburg.de/en/home. They might be able to help you out, if you have detail questions.

And so does the detail!

I'm looking forward to seeing it together with Bismarck.

Hello everyone,

I have just finished the assembly of the railway part of the diorama. Namely locomotives and wagons. That's my head. And I'm glad to have finished.

First, an overview of the mounted elements.

Image

Image

Pour vous donner une idée des dimensions. J’ai mis un wagon à côté d’une pièce de 1 centimes d’€uros.

Image

First the locomotive (BB50) and tender. These elements were drawn by Jean (Migou31 on the forums). A real marvel and a masterpiece. I made large drops during assembly (and not due to heat). There are two more rooms to go up. But I would put them up when I finished painting the chassis and the rest of the loco. A big thank you to John for allowing me to mount such marvels.

Now, let's go to the cars. In general and a few rooms near, a closed wagon, consists of the parts present in the picture below.

Image

And it takes a long time to mount them. A lot of patience. Use Zap CA Rose. AND have very sharp and clean tools.

Image

For cranes on wheels. I do not know if I will put them on the diorama. This point is still in reflection.

That's the last thing. I have finished the diorama and I will now devote myself to the assembly of the Bismarck.

Best Regards
Alain.

The research alone, necessary to produce all these wonderful models, must have been considerable.

Truly amazed.
