With FRUNZE heading for completion in 2018 I've decided to build some escorts to go with her.

The Kara class cruisers are a favourite. Big, good looking, well armed and quintessentially Soviet. Tim has recently added a 1:72 scale Kara hull to his portfolio, so when it came time to choose a suitable ship as a consort to my Kirov, it was a no brainer.

The ship I've chosen to build is the TASHKENT (516) circa late 1980s when she was in the Pacific Fleet and one of FRUNZE's escorts. In 1985 when FRUNZE was brand new she transferred from the Baltic to the Pacific and was intercepted by HMAS CANBERRA (FFG-02). TASHKENT was with her as the photo below with the FFG at close quarters shows. It must have been quite exciting.

Here's where she's at. Tim's beautiful hull, a pair of Crest motors from Michael and a plan. Allan is also providing some of his excellent cast fittings. The build will be conventional using my tried and tested method but with the added benefit of 3D printing for the fitout.
