Any chance doing a Lexington CV-16 island 44-45 ?
Yes indeed! Working on 1945 designs now. The Lex vet you know will be happy. In the mean time, there is this to whet your appetite for 3D-printed Lady Lex products:
USS Lexington CV-16.jpg
USS Lexington CVT-16.jpg
It is 3D-printed in real brass and can be produced in other real metals including silver, polished silver, brass, polished brass, bronze, polished bronze, 14k gold-plated, 14k rose-gold-plated, 18k gold-plated and rhodium-plated.

For those that like to paint their nameplates or otherwise prefer a much less costly material than metal, these same nameplates can be printed in acrylic.

Hello Steve

Thanks a lot for the Hancock island. I will get it very soon...I would like it right now but I just had to hit the button on another subject and hence the island has to wait a few weeks! I was super lucky and snatched an MRC Intrepid 1/350 for just 75EUR...couldn't let that one pass...:-)

thanks a lot and happy new year!

You're very welcome Uwe! Please consider posting pics of your Intrepid as you build it. 75EU! I drool with envy.

Kinda an out of the blue question. Has there been any talk about 3D printed lower bulls for all the new trumpeter 1/700 kits that dont have them? I suppose it would probably be prohibitively expensive? Thanks!

You answered correctly and that has been discussed earlier.
Guessing on FUD easily can reach $200 USD if not more, maybe some wealthy guy can afford it(not me)
But probably in Strong and Flexible can be the half(still a lot of cash for a model that cost the third) but IMHO ,don't like the finish. So my friend go back to reality and the way to go is to scratch the lower hull or improvise using a hull from a suitable model, depending on your elasticity in the accuracy of the finished kit, is up to You
No Whine Policy
1.- Modify it
2.- Ignore it
3.- Don't build it

Hello Steve

Quickly back to the Hancock island, please. My already started Trumpi is scheduled to show Hancock in MS-21. I like that paint sceme and also I am still affaid of dazzle patterns, done it once in 1/700 and it looked terrible. Now I have red what you said about the changed apprenace of the starboard 20mm galleries and the range finder. I see that your 1/350 island shows the earlier set up but the 1/700, which is not for sale right now, seems to be the late war config. Would it be a lot of work to offer both? Once I get my 1/350 island I would prefere a late war set up. I have found a great picture of Hanckok's starboard side at that time...in a folder with Missouri pics!

thanks
Uwe
PS: There seems to be a big AirCo unit hanging under the 20mm platform on the funnel!

Hi Uwe,

1/350 Lexington from May, 1945- war's end should be ready today. [edit: DONE!]

The photo you posted above is erroneously labeled as Hancock on the Navsource website. But that ship is not Hancock, it is actually USS Bon Homme Richard CV-31.

MajorB, today is your day:

Happy to announce an Essex class island for USS Lexington CV-16 as it appeared in 1945, is now available in popular scales. The island was in this configuration during attacks on the Japanese mainland

An island for USS Bon Homme Richard CV-31 is now ready in 1/350 scale! The island was in this configuration during end-of-war aerial attacks on the Japanese mainland.

Much easier paint scheme to replicate during this period.

Ordered today...:-)
It looks like Shapeways is either not too busy right now or they have beefed up their production capacity! Ordered Jan.7th, expected ship date Jan.11th is really not too bad!

Thanks Uwe!

And in other news, Uwe requested a set of generic 40mm gun tubs. A set of 15 gun tubs for quadruple 40mm mounts is now available in 1/700 scale and 1/350 scale. Other scales are possible.

Thanks a lot Steve...ordered a set each! Those are a must when you look for example at the bow tubs of the long hull carriers from Dragon. They also come in handy on the islands since not all carriers had the ones that get lower over the sides. :-) I will show you once I get them...

Great... just after I'd already modded-up and resin-cast my own replacements for the Dragon bow tubs (based off the better Trumpeter ones...) Then again, these are good enough I may just want to scrape mine off and replace them...

Steve, would it be an easy enough matter to tweak these 40mm tubs to include exterior ribbing at the eighths? Seems to me to be the second most common "generic" configuration after smooth sides, especially on battleships. See also the tubs along the side of BHR here:
http://www.navsource.org/archives/02/023156.jpg

Oh, you just keep coming up with more stuff that I want to buy... :)
