Just launched another new crowdfunding campaign, for a 1/350 scale 3D printed USS Midway, in as built condition.

https://outoftheboxmodels.com/collections/crowdfunding-projects/products/crowdfunding-uss-midway-cvb-41-as-built

There are only 10 units, at $75 each, since the flat rate to design a 1/350 carrier is $750. Once all 10 are sold, CAD Development will begin, and all purchasers will get their model once that process is complete, one week before the model is up for sale in our store.

Sweet! A probably stupid question; is this for the CAD file to print our own?

No. I will be printing it, and shipping it. Good question though.

Cool idea! :woo_hoo: I have just oredered mine!

I guess this will be a craftsman kit like the model kits from IHP ... and one has to add the rest from the aftermarket?

Well, i have been toying around with the idea of scratchbuilding exactly that vessel ... and my research showed that everything
is available! :thumbs_up_1:
Being it aircraft (Corsairs, Hellcats, Helldivers) or all of the other stuff like 5" guns, Bofors quads, Oerlikons, Mk51 and Mk37 gun directors,
life rafts ... and so on.

... i am really looking forward to that monster! :heh:

... and please a waterline version for me!

Greetings from Germany,
Jan Schulz, SIG-Waterline

One of my engineers is going to do the Midway and Atalanta side by side, but he is finishing another project right now, but we expect to start both of these in a week or so!

I posted this in the USS Chicago thread as well. I am really trying to get these projects off the ground, I was told that I could get digital versions of the blueprints only to be told a few months later by the vendor that he doesn't have them... and I can not find anyone who will scan the printed blueprints for me.

So, I am struggling to get detailed drawings in a digital format for all three ships to my engineer. I have been going back and forth with vendors for months now and its taking weeks just get a response. We are making due with some low detail drawings to get the general hull shapes, but progress not moving at the pace I wanted to. Once I can get my engineer, Sam, detailed DIGITAL drawings that he can put into CAD, we can really go full steam into this.

If anyone has them in a digital format, and can save me a lot of time, please let me know.

Good news! We just got the scans of the USS Midways plans from the USS Midway Museum, and sent them to our engineer, Sam, who will get things moving faster on that. We also are working on purchasing a new 3D printer that can that as a 2 foot x 2 foot x 2 foot printing area with 15 micron resolution, for our model ship projects.

These are the most up to date renderings of the Midway. Sorry for my engineer's watermark. CAD work is done, and we are optimizing it for printing.
