Howdy guys!

It's been a minute since I've been on here. Kind of put down the ships a few years ago, then had a BB I built from then take gold in category at a show recently- did much better than my planes and other subjects so I started building ships again.

This will be the Lex as she was in late '41 since the kit still has her with the 8" guns. Should be a fun build, painting her up in MS-5a with the fake bow wave and have ordered some older TBD and F2A aircraft to go on her. Build is box stock otherwise.

Kyle

Finished up the hull, now she needs gloss coat and oil weathering. The deck was a new technique I tried using Crayola water colors for a slight wood effect, peeking through the stain.

Nice! Always nice to see the Lady Lex getting some love.

Excellent work, Kyle! Are you going to any Louisiana shows this fall?

Thank you gentlemen! I would like to go to some shows again this fall - only ones I found on the IPMS list was Autumncon in Covington, LA this September. I would love to go and will be there if I don't go TDY for work. I might be dipping out "at the end of September" for a bit, that's all I've been told for now. Fingers crossed I'll be back stateside for that show... assume you're going?

Some more progress - weathered with oil paints both filtering and rust, main superstructure added. Blended the masked deck lines in a bit better too.

Yeah. First show is 9/29 @ the Northshore. I should be there.

We've lost Pensacola, Mobile, and likely Lafayette for the near future. It sucks. I'm not really into competition anymore, but I do enjoy attending a show for a bit.

Woah what happened to Mobile and Pcola? I used to dig going to both of them!

Working on the airwing, but just a question...

Why is the only manufacturer of 1/700 aircraft in plastic decide to mold them clear, and why do they have separately applied landing gear and props? :dead:

Just a solid hunk of grey plastic with nubs for wheels is fine, if folk want more detail there is PE stuff.

Rant over: Filling out a very modest wing of F2A Buffalos, TBD Devastators, and two different squadrons (scout and bomber) of SBD Dauntlesses.

And she's done! Not a bad build, not rivet counting accurate for time period, I think she builds as a '30s warship better. Still makes for a nice, barely pre-war '41 fit of Lady Lex in my case. I finished out the sea base and airwing with F2A Buffalos, TBD Devastators, and SBD Dauntless' from both a scouting squadron and bomber squad.

Looks good. You need to make the Northshore show.

I like it! I have fond memories of building this kit several times when I was younger (which was a long time ago)

*Try* isn't sufficient. You're starting to sound like Martin and his Saratoga.

Nice Lexington. :)
