I have the HMS Dorsetshire `Indian Ocean Raid` kit and it looks pretty nice in the box. I had already planned to use the Fine Molds Nano Dread weapons to replace the kit weapons. Add some photo etch and replace the masts with metal rods, and I think it will look great. I really can’t tell that it is undersized. Wow, we now have a plastic County Class Cruiser, thank the ship Gods and just build it and hope that Aoshima will issue HMS Cornwall! Accept that the glass is half full.

Yes if you display it alone I guess you wouldn't know it was undersized, but displayed on shelves alongside many other 1/700 Royal Navy ship models is a different story. If it was the only County class cruiser kit available I might go ahead and buy it, but with one on the way from Flyhawk that will probably be true to 1/700, there's no reason for me to settle for an under scale kit, so I'll wait for that one.

I agree and this 1/720 will look undersized. I have two Italeri pocket battleships next to Bismarck that are 1cm too short and I think the effect is noticeable. And I also wont bother with 1/700 Graf Spees as a result because ... what use are they to build again? So buying Aoshima you will miss out on better stuff too.

That Aoshima offering looks fairly simple to me on top of size, and not even close to Flyhawk offerings: so for those of us who want extra detailed kits its a non starter. Ive built just now 1/700 U-48 and USS Ward from Flyhwak and once I upgraded masts with brass, I gotta say they are phenomenal looking kits. Pretty sure my PoW also is good on detail.. bottom line - dont bother with Aoshima offering if you can spare a wait.

Coming soon (all images courtesy of HobbySearch Japan):

Retake version of the Aoshima 1/350 Atago, 1944, with 1942 parts option

Hasegawa 1/700 Yugumo class Akishimo, early 1944. Another Fujinagata Yard built ship, so the degaussing cable pattern matches. Smart choice for Hasegawa.

Hasegawa 1/700 Asasahio class Arashio, early 1943. Upgraded AA fit, thoug I have to wonder of Arashio was really so equipped. It would mean getting an AA upgrade in the 3rd quarter of 1942, which seems much earlier than is currently accepted. Not impossible, I suppose.

Nice.
Were there any substantive changes in fit between then and September 1939? I rather doubt it.
If so, I hope Trumpeter scales the kit down to 1/700th and soon.
A fantastic addition in that scale as well. :woo_hoo:

They will do it in waterline for 1/700 so sadly couldnt care less. Otherwise would buy it for sure. Want some old vintage battleship 1/700 full hull.

Pit-Road has a new 1/700 JMSDF weapon/accessory set and it looks absolutely fantastic. Hopefully it will be out next month.

Any educated guesses when Flyhawk 1/700 Bismarck will be released? This year??

Starling Models says August for Bismarck and November for Königsberg.
So the end of waiting is near.

:cry_3:

I am so happy that I am crying.

A 1941 outfit of the IJN ship Maya:

https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10562486

I hope that converting this to a 1942 outfit is not as difficult as converting HIJMS Chokai in 1942 to a Maya in 1942 (Aug-Nov of 1942, but if the ships are basically the same for earlier, I will not complain).

Now to just hope that I can find a doctor who can return the functioning of the Left half of my body!

Ahhh, Matthew, I don't think that's a convertible version like the new Chokai kit. It's a typo by HobbySearch. The box art is the same '44 view as the previous release, and Fujimi's website says 1944, as does HLJ: https://hlj.com/product/FUJ43232/Nav

Chokai and Maya are nearly identical in 1941-42 save for the auxiliary piping on #1 funnel, and the upper mainmast (maybe).

In other news:

Fujimi continues it's rollout of 1/200 Yamato stuff in styrene. First it was the main battery turrets, and now it's the entire tower bridge (I guess if you kept your 1/200 Nichimo Yamato in the closet stash, it's about time to bring it out.) https://hlj.com/product/FUJ02034/Nav

Fujimi has also gotten around to issuing a late war version of it's Akizuki class DD kit: https://hlj.com/product/FUJ46037/Nav

Aww... Bummer.

Well... I still have the extra Chokai kit. It would have been nice to not have to do any conversion, though.

I saw this, too. It looked pretty good.

Oh... And question about the MiniHobby Models’ Hornet in 1/700.

Is this a new kit, or an older one?

Minihobby Models is generally to be avoided - operates under the same umbrella company as Trumpeter but "specializes" in low-cost inferior repops of other companies' kits. To comment more about your particular kit, we'd need a link to the page where you saw it to see whether it might be repoping Trumpeter's new-mold Yorktowns rather than old Tamiya or Revell stuff.

I saw it on eBay:

Mini Hobby Models 1:700 CV-8 USS Hornet Plastic Model Kit #80901 Factory Sealed

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 3898292043

I have really been wanting to buy the rest of the USN Early-War Carriers (I currently have only the Lexington/CV-2, and what I think is a Fujimi CV-3/Saratoga - it is one that is closest to her May-Nov 1942 Outfit, whichever that one is. I would need to dig through the closet to find it) since Trumpeter just came out with a new Yorktown and Enterprise that correct the bow shape.

But I have been having trouble finding actual 1/700 scale ships of CV-7 and CV-8 (Wasp and Hornet), as all models apparently are closer to 1/720 for these... and I don’t want a 1/720 Wasp and Hornet. I want a 1/700 Wasp and Hornet.
