For sure there are classes for which a endless number of kits are available. But there are also still classes, for which no kits are available, e.g. for USS Little Rock and Oklahoma City as missile cruisers. Were there are lot of difference between Boston and Canberra? For sure, bot were modified during their service as missile cruisers. I would have thought that it would be no problem to built Boston from the Canberra kit.

Dodo Models announced in 1/700:

German frigate of the Baden-Württemberg class (Klasse 125/F-125)

Danish frigate of the Iver Huitfeldt class

Image

In case of the Iver Huitfeldt it is stated that a NH-90 would be included, but the drawing shows the correct MH-60R - plus two Arvak class tugs, one loaded with a 7.62 cm gun :D

Pit-Road is planning to release a 1/350 Yamato Bridge structure in September. The translation says it's based on the updated research used for their new 1/700 kit. An interesting accessory.

Lots of pics on the Hobbysearch Japan site: https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10551350

The photo of the parts looks like they're made of resin?

Yes they are resin. If you look at all the photos HobbySearch shows they show all the parts with what apppears to be resin over pours, plus the parts are yellow and you can tell the built up superstructure has been primed. Estimated cost $81 so further evidence it’s a resin set.

Why not Boston? Canberra is Canberra. After all if we can have a dozen or more Bismarck's and Tirpitz in the same scale why not two sister ships.

I saw this and really had to question what was being gained. Side by side with the Tamiya Premium edition and the Tamiya plastic has more detail. The only real difference I saw was the gun tubs on the Pit-Road had some girders and detailing on the inside walls that the Tamiya does not. There is also some gentle bridge detailing but I think its minor and not worth $80.

Weren’t there some new small ships released?

I could swear that Five Star released a Aircraft Recovery Ship (a higher detailed version of the one that comes in the IJN Tuggers set).

I wish Five Star would finish the Second Set of the PE for those ships.

Anybody know if Pit-Roads soon to be released 1/350 JMSDF Defense Destroyer DDH-143 Shirane will come with decals to do her sister ship as well? Or will there be a another boxing perhaps?

I have the 1/350 Akizuki and has decals for one of her sisters ,I think is the Teruzuki ,but I believe the kit should have decals for the Kurama, I don't think Pit Road is bringing a different box Kurama.

Thanks for the heads up ,just ordered one in AmiAmi ,it is cheaper than HLJ

I was right.

There were/are some new small-ships in Resin.

Five Star IJN Type No.53 Sub-Chaser

Five Star IJN Type B Escort

Five Star IJN Type No.103 Auxiliary Sub-Chaser

Five Star IJN Type No.3 Sub-Chaser

The No.53 and No.3 Sub-Chasers are actually variants of the Type No.1 Sub-Chaser, and the Type No.51 Sub-Chasers, but had noticeable differences in their structures. In the No.53 Sub-Chaser it was having Turbine instead of Diesel engines. In the No.3 Sub-Chaser, it was having a pole-mast and different bridge roof.

I think Rainbow also came out with some new Resin Ships. I recall seeing some resin versions of the yard auxiliaries that typically came in the Tamiya or Aoshima "Tuggers" set, but cannot recall who makes them (or I would post links).

As they recent kits, they use lots of PE, and have a nice level of details.
