Famous Galleon Revenge, which was commanded by Drake, Frobisher, and Grenville in different times, is probably well known. Zvezda offers a simple but well detailed model kit for her in 1/350. I was waiting for some company to pop up an etched set for her, and finally this come true - russian company Microdesign did. At the same time, I was asked by my wife if I can make a small sailing ship for the living room cupboard display. So, I am starting the build of this nice ship. I expect Microdesign etched stuff (which adds shrouds, doors, windows, and some decorative ornaments) to arrive in 10-15 days, and I can start painting the hull until then.

Patience, my young padawan! ;) I am still in research phase, reading alot about galleons and looking at Paintings from Vroom, van Wieringen and Hilliard

I think Zvezda's 1/350 Revenge kit is not really needed to be presented, while Modeldesign's PE is much more interesting, but it is still in the post.

My diorama idea behing is to show a pair of galleons (Golden Hind and Revenge, maybe scratchbuilding the Susan Constant from Anatomy) at anchor, with lots of harbour activity going around. Similar to these Vroom paintings, but moved from 1620es to around 1600, and from Holland to England:

Taking a tangential step from steel ships to wood and sail is always an eye-opener!
There is sooo much to learn , and a whole raft of new techniques to learn!

as the eras are similar--it may be of interest to have a trawl trough here PetrOs

My build thread of 1/400 Mary Rose, an earlier ship-

Thanks Jim, your Mary Rose is a high inspiration for me to try 1/350 sailing stuff!

Best

Thank you, Jim!
I'm quite satisfied with my Revenge, especially regarding the age of the kit, although I would do many things differently if I was to build her today.
And yes, she carries the original vacform sails just painted to make them look more realistic.
Sorry to reply so late - Christmas preparations got in the way.

One more word: Erich, really nice work so far!
I understand that Airfix based its kit on Matthew Baker's sketches as - to my knowledge - there is no trustworthy illustration of Revenge in existence. I wonder what Zvezda's model is based on - there apparent differences from the Airfix kit, most notably she has one deck less.

So, after a while, I started the work on my Revenge. As for now, it is painted in base colors, and detail work is in progress.

I hollowed the gallion, to be replaced by plastic strip, removed gunports, etc. Microdisign Etch would be used, but for example doors look better in plastic.

Thanks! But... not yet a single part is applied from PE so far, except on the deck.
Doors, etc are much better in plastic, just careful painting so far. Plus carving off the gunport lids, solid beakhead/gallion, and aztec ladders
