For those of you modelling the Alaska CB-1 in her camouflage here is a ling to Mike Czibovic's build with lots of pictures from around the ship. It makes it easier to figure out the pattern.
Well I've finally made a start on my ISW Alaska and after a few hours of trying to follow their instructions, tossed them. Instead I'm using Pierre Marchal's excellent scratchbuild as a guide. The first question (of no doubt a few) I have is what's in the small tub behind the quads?

Director, Mk51 for 40mm control. It looks like the handlebars are "up" and the sight disc is not visible in this picture.
If an unfriendly power had attempted to impose on America the mediocre educational performance that exists today, we might well have viewed it as an act of war.
Hi Guys,
Kym,
Pierre's ship is superb!
I too have the ISW Alaska kit.
The L'Arsenal supplies available for this kit don't stop at the Mk51 directors........the list begins here!
5" mounts w' brass barells
Quad 40's
Mk37 directors
Seahawk floatplanes
26' motor launch
20mm oerlikons
SK2 radar
........to name a few!
Go to Steve Nuttal for the 12"50 barrels in brass.....one word...superb!
HAVE FUN!!!!!
faithfully submitted, Tony Bunch

Hey Tony,
I have a set of Steve's 12''/50's and they are excellent. He also sent one each of the 5'' & quad barrels to check out. Depending on the price, I might go for a set of the 5'' barrels and personally, I think the mounts supplied in the kit are pretty good so I'll stick with them. At the moment I'm waiting for Ted to send a couple of replacement parts. One section of the bridge was stupidly superglued back to front and destroyed when trying to remove One thing I've found, is that the kit needs a fair bit of scratchbuilding.

When you look at the overall contract ahead, I havn't done very much at all.

Tony,
Have you checked out the catapult's from the ISW kit? How the hell are you supposed to make anything that resembles the units off CB1. No catwalks, just one little platform with fold up railings and a bunch of little P/E square frames with diagnal cross-members, which I have no idea what to do with. Do know where I can get a decent isometric diagram of the Catapults from? I have a fair few photos from my Cassic Warship books, but nothing clear enough to scratch build from.
Great looking photos, Kym. I've often had thoughts of building one of my resin kits straight OOB, no paint or anything, just raw resin, brass and white metal. I am a little strange, though.
I'm also kind of regretting not ordering the YMW Alaska during their big sale last month - but I have to say that the Wichita that I did order showed up last night and looks fabulous.

I picked up the Alaska from Pacific Front Hobbies, which I presented to my buddy for his birthday this past weekend. It's a fabulous kit - if I didn't already have the Samek 700th scale kit I'd get one for myself.

I just finished trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. The catapults supplied were terrible as I said in my previous post. So with some drawings supplied by Chad I hope I got them a little more to reality.
