A question : why did Trumpeter 1:700 Shandong (second Chinese carrier) disappear from the list on page 1 of this post ? Mistake or bad news ?

It's listed as PLAN Type 002 Carrier. It's uncertain, however, whether Trumpeter uses Type 002 to refer to "Shandong" (still not an official name) or, as most Western sources do, to the new third carrier that's still being built. The graphic entry in their latest catalog certainly seems to suggest the second carrier.

I had my suspicions that Trumpeter's been using Profile Morskie plans during their kit design process but the Cornwall confirms it. Comparing with my paper copy of the Morskie plans for that ship the kit parts are identical in shape.

Sooo, any inaccuracy in the plans will translate onto the kit.

Mike.
I suspect that Trumpeter uses Profile Morskie plans as their primary resource. They are pretty cheap and reasonably workable for scratchbuilding I think. I've got a couple floating around.

And of course we know that their strategy is to find the best relationship between minimal effort and maximum output.

I know a lot people have offered them free help over the years but I figure they think it is easier just to follow plans they are comfortable with.

BTW, I am sure that you are all already aware but Hobbysearch has the class leader of my favorite type of ship (Littorio) listed for late April release. :thumbs_up_1:

And, it would SEEM, HMS Tiger, which many in the Royal Navy regarded as the most beautiful ship of her era.

I was just going to note the photo of the Tiger under the heading of Flyhawk New Products just after the Hood coming summer of 2019, but can't read what it says on the photo. Have not seen the Tiger listed before for Flyhawk. Hope it is being added.

Still available from NNT :wave_1:
Yes, it is resin, but maybe easier to build than some plastic kits today.
Best regards,

Also available as preorder from other well known domestic online sources.
However I wonder whether they managed to capture the different shape of the bow compared to the later Roma.

Will be VERY disappointed if Trumpeter uses the same hull as Roma, there are substantial differences ,starting with the size and as You mentioned the bow shape.

It looks like we are going to be ok - seems they tooled a new hull:

Still not convinced ,IMHO will be until is released ,for me looks very close.

Also and my main gripe,if You read the Roma's review
http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/sh ... eview.html
will talk that the hull maybe will be used for her sisters.
So I am not very anxious about this "new" release

There are really only two major differences hull/bow wise:

1. Roma is 3 meters longer with sheer and a steeper prow angle.

2. Roma has only two bow anchors (port and starboard) - Littorio/VV have three (1 port, 2 starboard).

I have the Profile Morskie for Vittorio Veneto, the new line drawing from Trumpeter is virtually identical. As it should - VV and Lit has virtually identical hulls.

And they both shipped a bit too much water - hence the introduction of sheer and a sharper rake.

The PM plans do differ slightly from my Italian sourced plans (some superstructure details, small details too numerous to list) - I would be very much surprised if the Trumpeter plans do not follow PM's configuration.

Sorry for the poor resolution.

Also did not get them in scale with each other.

But there is the comparison.

Littorio is on top, Roma below.

Did some cropping - here is the Vittorio Veneto bow which should be more or less the same as Littorio.

Anyway, I can't wait to get my hands on the kit.
