Hello guys, time to embark on a new build as my 1:700 fleet has grown a lot over last few years but 1:350 is elusive.
I decided to do a super detailed battleship, no clue where this lands me because it looks massively complicated.
Here is the starting set (which is about 350-400 dollars give or take):
1. Tamiya Prince of Wales 1:350 vintage kit
2. Pontos Duke of York set for PoW, ca 1943 (so lots of brass and a wooden deck)
3. 3D printed parts list is as follows:
3.1 Main caliber gun houses
3.2 lifeboats for Duke of York
3.3 Carley floats RN
3.4 Searchlights RN
3.5. Radars for DoY
3.6 Flota nets
I plan to build it in assemblies, guns, hull, superstructures, funnels, etc. Paint is going to be royal navy dark grey for hull and light grey for superstructure. I probably use Tamiya or AK Interactive acryllics over Tamiya toxic, I mean lacquer, primer. There is no need to freak out about paint as multiple layers, weathering and clear coat probably gonna change the starting paint color anyway. The deck staining in grey will be the biggest challenge of course... But that is later.
There is going to be plenty of modeling here as the hull itself needs portholes redone, mounted on pedestals, hull plating lines added, and the deck is gonna see everything scraped off it it seems. Lets see how it all pans out, I have a feeling it will be a long build!.
PS. Duke of York is one of those ships that has a fair good bit of history to its name, be it the convoys, seeing Italian fleet surrender, or duking it out (
)with Scharnhorst where some of the best naval artillery was displayed by the Royal Navy. I plan to have one 1:350 battleship in my collection, hence the big investment into parts, research and I couldnt have found a more interesting yet less overdone subject. Plus, the KGC class with its quads and queens mansion superstructure, and low free-board reminiscent of earlier British battleships makes it a rather handsome ship to display in full hull.

Haha, not an easy beginnings here. But Im kinda of heating the idea of barrels being stuck in one position, the whole point of them to me is to move up and down, which is much more cool, given they all moved independently on main caliber. Asking MicroMaster who made the turrets what the solution could be but so far, I can only think of tacky substance kinda holding barrels in place but also moving back and forth if needed... will see.
