Well, obviously it's Hood season LOL. I started this a year or so ago, and have been following all the builds here and blatantly stealing idea's, tips and suggestions from everybody. Plus added a couple of my own. A rather amusing tale goes with this model. I bought it in York, England while on holiday visiting family. ( I live in Rhode Island, USA). Well, the hobby shop in Fossgate York, did a fantastic job of packing the kit for the trip, including a handle to carry it! All went well until I arrived in customs at the other side of the pond. I got hauled into the back office and quizzed about the package. Turned out the officers didn't care about me or my luggage, they just wanted to SEE THE MODEL!!!! We had to unpack it, show the parts, answer the questions (ALL modelling related!) the ships history, the battle with the Bismark, etc. what a great time! Those guys were really into it. One was ex Navy, another had a relative in the RN, and a bunch more came over and joined in. It was a blast, I don't look at customs officers as "the Enemy" any more, they are just regular guys doing their job, and very human. Great guys. I didn't miss my connecting flight, and when we were done they repacked it as good as before. What a laugh. So, on with the build. I collected the kit, the Pontos kit, all the Eduard sets, the AOTS book, the HMS Hood Association Website. E J's model build and 'On the Slipway" site, and all the builds on this site and interweb photo's, also the thread that came about as Pontos was developing the set and interacting here and with the HMSHA. ( very informative for the mods needed to the kit). Got to go and cook dinner, be back soon.
