Here is my new project 1: 542.It's an old model from Revell but for a complete rebuilding. The carrier will be from 1991 Desert Shield operation.

I have a question about the color of the island. In the Desert Shield operation, the island was gray, but in the same year it had a black side.
What and when was gray or black ?

Thanks for pic.I need to know what was the combination of black and gray. Here is the black color over time.1956-1982 was gray 82-90 was black. In the Desert Shield and Desert Storm operation it was gray and again from 92 to 95 again black.During the final voyage to Brownswille, the island was again gray.
Does anyone know what black color served and when?

The answer to your question about the island colors is the black base of the island was to show that the carrier was non-nucular and when it was in the gulf it was painted all grey with low vis numbers on the island same with all the conventual carriers.

Wow! What a great job! And what a massive undertaking! Looks like you're coming along nicely on it, though.

Good luck - and keep us posted.
