was the panzerschiff 'Ersatz Hannover" suppose to be similar to the Ersatz Elsass or not? (I didn't find any concept drawing for the gneisenau too)

What is your question? The 2 turret version was never built. You can do what you want.

In reality, Ersatz Elsass and Ersatz Hessen were built as the battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. Ersatz Hannover was Bismarck - obviously all different from the drawings shown above.

Still, what is the question? Ersatz Hessen is the ship, which was named Gneisenau. It was never similar to the drawings, which you found. For sure, there were different design studies for Ersatz Elsass and Ersatz Hessen. The ships were built as Scharnhorst class. If they would be built as cruisers ("Panzerschiffe"), they would have been built as very similar sister ships. But they were never built in that way. Therefore, I do not understand your question.

These are early, never realized design studies. It is not the final design. Why should be there one for a sister ship?

What would be the difference between a Scharnhorst 1940 and 1943. More AA on the 1943 version. But were there any structural differences?

Say April 1940 and December 1943.

If the question of 1940 and 1943 differences pertains to models, the Dragon kits of these two versions of Scharnhorst 1/350, captures all the differences except the catapult on turret C was gone by April 1940.

The questions likely refers to the new Flyhawk 1/700 kit of the 1943 version - and if that kit can be built as the ship was in April 1940.

Exactly, I was thinking about the new Flyhawk Scharnhorst 1943. I am not a big fan of releasing the same model at different time periods. I want a Scharnhorst April 1940 (Flyhawk might release one) but I know I will by the 1943. And it would suck if the differences are to big.

BTW, could the administrators please correct the title ? It should be 'Kriegsmarine' not 'Kreigsmarine' (I know it is the same pronounciation problem in English as with 'diesel-engine' - but it just looks awful). Thanks ...

Thanks, Steve! The title has been there for many years but I was afraid to mention it... I have been fighting the 'Marinefleiger' spelling for years but have given up trying to teach Americans the difference between 'ei' and 'ie' in German...
