OK Timmy, I am guilty of not noticing ships that don't appeal to me personally. The trouble being that the range in 350 has a lot more cruisers, a monitor, just a more interesting range. Meanwhile my money has been going to Flyhawk, Aoshima and IBG. My complaints are unjustified, sure. Mea culpa.

They have not scaled down Dunkerque and Strasbourg.
And Alaska-class.
And Schleswig-Holstein.
And Zara-class.
And Belfast (Announced since five years?).
And York.
(And Exeter; alternative from Aoshima).
(And County-class; alternative from Aoshima).
And Ranger.
And Tashkent.
And Seydlitz.
And Lord Nelson and Agamemnon.
And Danton-class.

The greater point being, it's clear that Trumpeter sometimes scales down their 1/350 products, and that they don't have a clear and absolute policy of no longer doing so. The question is, when, and why? Is there a discernible pattern that can help us predict the likelihood of other 1/350 products being released in 1/700?

All to say that hope springs eternal!

Why are the boat davits pointed outboard while the boats are stowed inboard?

Probably because they are gravity davits rather than radial davits

Texas and New York, same fit, latewar, basically the same ships! They should have done one in 1942 fit and the other in 1945. At least you would have had a time choice! So, why havent they release the Belfasts in 1/700?? One is in 1942, and the other in 1959???

Someone must remind Flyhawk that one more/giving priority to SMS Scharnhorst is not what we need, and not releasing the HMS Duke of York or delaying the release of HMS Agincourt. Also where is the promised SMS Moltke, SMS Baden etc ? Model ships that never released in plastic before.

EDIT:If they will release SMS Gneisenau before HMS Agincourt, thats it Im sending them an angry email !

This is interesting, I have a 1/700 resin Calcutta AA version next up for sending to the caster but had decided against it assuming Trumpeter would do a 1/700 version. Perhaps I ought to rethink it?

Yes, Calcutta would be nice!

I do not expect Trumpeter to release a lot. I cannot even remember when I last time bought a Trumpeter kit, when it was freshly released. They started really remarkably and I bought a lot of cruiser kits from them. But in the last years, there was nothing.

Funny I seem to remember Graf Zeppelin and the second carrier, New York and Texas plus Kitty Hawk and sister. Seems they have been dioing 1/700 kits. Not to mention the newest Montrose.

I know this answer is not going to sit well, but the truth is that they decide very arbitrarily. Almost on a whim.
It is entirely up to what the designer feels like doing. And this goes for not just Trumpeter but every manufacturer.

Sometimes there will be an anniversary or some other special occasion that marketing got wind of that they then walk into the design room and put up a design idea on the board, but there are ideas that go a very long time before any designer attaches their name to it. Old designs are also still on paper even up to 2012 for the most part. So shrinking down or blowing up is not a mouse click.

After all that management still has to approve to go to production. Basically how many units do we have to sell to make a profit.
This is why tooling will go on for 10 years or longer before an update. Old tools are the lifeblood of any model manufacturer because its basically printing money by that point.
If you look at the most beloved kits on the market, the tooling is ancient with very few updates.

For me this Agincourt without full hull is such a miss. I know they dont do WW1 stuff in full hull, sadly, but given they are the only models in plastic without competition for that area the full hull would have been better. Agincourt in FH would look splendid next to Warspite of same age.

I didnt realize they were releasing Graf Spees ships from the Great War (WWI)

That will be nice.

"One more Scharnhorst"? There is only one other plastic Scharnhorst in 1/700 - which is the almost 50 yr old Tamiya one which really needs to be replaced by Flyhawk quality. If you're used to getting what you want when you want it, you should know by now that's not how it works in the modelling world (unless you own a plastic model company)!

As regards Scaling down from 1/350 to 1/700...
Trumpeter now has a history of doing so. Seems a well thought out process. All the hard work is done, just need to cut new molds.

How soon will a 1/700 version of an existing 1/350 kit get released and will it be waterline only? Take a look at the time frame, and lower hull design, for the 1/350 HMS Type 23's scaled to 1/700 in full hull . And then there is the 1/350 Graf Zeppelin scaled to 1/700 but Waterline only.

I am watching for a 1/700 Schleswig-Holstein in the so-called "1935" version. That 1/350 full, not separate lower hull kit, was a 2018 release. If it is selling well, I bet it comes out as water-line only in the very very near future.

From my observations the Lower hull issue in regard to scaling down seems to be any Trumpeter 1/350 kit that is 1-piece full-hull will only be waterline when issued as 1/700. Their 1/350 kits that have separate lower hulls, when issued as 1/700, will have a separate lower hull.

Assuming the fit would have changed little if at all by September 1939, I'm watching for one too
