they are not triangles but sloped rectangles as they are 4 sided not 3.

'Rect-' means square, so rectangles have four square angles. You are right they are four sided, but the four angles are not square. A 'sloped' rectangle is not a rectangle but a parallellogram. And the inboard side is not parallel to the outboard side, so it's not a parallellogram either...

So who's next? Do we discuss geometric shapes here? Point was: is this a good way to improve on the Tico kit? I rather have your comments on that!

The supports look like a vast improvement to me! Given the scale, those things are extremely tiny bits and I'm impressed by your ability to achieve consistent spacing and keep them all at the proper angle to the bulwark. You must have had some awfully fine tweezers to handle them. You must have the eyes of a hawk!

Well done! :thumbs_up_1:

Thanks for the compliments! But these are not deserved. The only thing worthwhile I really have figured out is the original frame distance (4 ft) and translated that onto the model - finding out that the model was actually pretty accurate to start with, so kudos for Dragon or whoever designed it in the first place! Only the stanchions and the hawse holes were wrong, but the bulwarks themselves appeared to be spot on.

In other areas there are some errors too, but we might discuss these later on...

Hey. Tell me, are there any kits for assembling a PC model of the Ticonderoga class in 1/100 or 1/96 scale? I would be very grateful for the links. thank

I have no comment on quality, I have heard some bad things, but have seen pics of it built that look okay, so decide for yourself.

Other than that, it will be buying parts from various suppliers, or making your own. Both of which is what most of us do. There are also people who will get a hull and structure to the point where it runs, then you finish the details.

Warship models underway has all the links.

Does anyone have a good picture or a good library to reference of the port side flag bag and deck area? I am having a real hard time trying to find any reference on this area. Unfortunately, the googles has not returned any good results. I am making the USS San Jacinto and cut off the amorphous blobs that are molded on and I want a better representation of this area. Thanks in advance.

Patrick,

If you can get your hands on a copy of Steve Wiper's Pictorial book on the Tico's on page 39 there is a fairly close picture of a flagbag that should get you where you want to be. As far as the surrounding area, there are enough other pictures that you should be able to come up with a reasonable representation.

best,
Bruce

I am in need of some help with a 1/96 scale Port Royal.
Does anyone have or know where to get a good set of hull lines for this boat?
I would even settle for a Spruance set

I am having an issue with the waterline depth and the top of the deck heights.

Any help would be appreciated

James

Hi James

I think you may order these hull plans from Floating Drydock: http://floatingdrydock.com/HULL.htm

To my own surprise! I would have expected these plans were still classified. Good luck with your build anyway!

None of the ticos were built with this extension. They all had it installed in the 90's or early 2000's.

So yes, bunker hill does have it now.

It reduces drag from water pulling on the vertical stern, making it easier for the ship to move forward. This saves fuel.

Many navy ships have it installed around the world.

It is called a stern flap; https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship/stern-flap.htm

OK. Thanks for the clarification. Or maybe someone has drawings of this stern shield (or at least dimensions) so that I can make it to scale and install it on my ship?

Thanks Bruce for the reply. I have that book and the edition I have mistakenly labels it as the starboard side flag bag so I think I glossed over it before. However the area I'm specifically looking for is the area just forward of the flag bag and the "rack" where all of the ropes are tied. I don't think there is anything between the rack and the bridge structure but I just wanted to make sure.
