Revell 1/426 scale USS Arizona - true scale discussion

Post by ModelMonkey »

Loren Perry, holder of the original 1957 Revell documents, has stated that the classic Revell 1/426 scale USS Arizona kit's true scale is 1/429 scale. Original 1957 instructions state 1/429 scale. This is confirmed by photos sent by David Perry of the original kit's instructions and box (see below).

The kit's scale was changed on box art and instructions to 1/426 scale, perhaps due to a typographical error, sometime in the 1970s.

The first of many, many, many needed corrections for this kit!

Seriously, I do love modeling arcana. I look forward to winning a future trivia night with this.

I'd point out that the difference between 1/29 and 1/426 is 0.7% which is insignificant. That difference could be caused by variation in shrinkage of the polystyrene resin and/or mold wear.
