Does someone have the dimensions of the access "Doors" of the maindeck of the uss Ranger, the large opening between the jet shop and hangarbay no 3? Any pictures of this site of the hangar would be great, period 1970-1971. I only found Some faque pictures on the rangerguy page.
On the galleydeck the is an aviation parashute equipement shop. Does somehave any information on the layout of this room and equipement inside. Or are it just tables where the parashute where fold and ready for use? I really dont know. This is what I am building in 1:72. Any info will be more than welcome.
I did have another account here but forgot my username and details and I no longer have that registered email account. I have looked through many posts, still looking, for as much information as I can get.
I just read through this whole post as I am looking for parts needed to turn the Italeri 1/720 Saratoga into the Ranger CV61 as she was on her final cruise in 1992-93. I don't have the model with me yet but hope to have it next week sometime.
I saw on Page 34 gjholmes77 shows pictures of the sponsons and re part of the carrier, are these 1) available topurchase, if so how much? 2) correct for ther time frame I am building?
I know I'm going to have to make comprimises with the air wing CVW-2 but I did find a website that does decals in this scale but they were for the airwing when it was on the Connie just after leaving the Ranger and therefore doesn't have the VF-1 Wolfpack decals.
Anyway thanks in advance and i have really enjoyed all of the information I have read so far.
Greg was still working on the Ranger's last configuration set last time we communicated about a month ago. His set will allow you to use the 1/720 Italeri Ranger/Independence Kits to build out Ranger in the time frame you are looking to do. Cost would likely be similar to what his 1/700 Nimitz set costs I would guess. As I recall, the Italeri Forrestal and Saratoga kits were a bit different at the stern.
Three of my Ranger sets are printing at Shapeways as we speak. 1 will be the hangar bay interior, 2 will be exterior sponson details and 3 will be replacement elevators. Hopefully this will be the final test of these parts and they will be ready for sale. I am also working on the island and hope to be able to print a test in the next couple of weeks or so... lots of tricky things sticking off of the island that are difficult to 3d print in 1/720.
Here is a preview of the exterior set and the elevators.
Thanks for the information Mark.
Greg my wife is going to kill me lol. Those are exactly the pieces I am after. Is the island on the Italeri kit correct for 92/93?
That will also leave me with just the hanger deck roof stuff to model if I can. I'm trying to gather as many pictures as I can for that across all 4 ships in the class. I'm also in a USS Ranger Cv61 FB group so am going to ask there. I also have some really good detail pics on some of the external areas as well, things like small lifting cranes on the elevators. I need to find out how to add pictures here and can show you.
I have resized the pics so hopefully they're not too big for here.
Mark, 1/700 should be an easy conversion; I just don't know how well it will fit onto your kit.
Mardis, I'm still going to try and make it work (meaning affordable) in 1/350
Craig, The island in the kit is not really correct for any version of Ranger (wrong smokestack, weird lump on the port side, no CIWS or Sea Sparrow platforms, etc...). The one I am designing will be for 1992/93. I'm still thickening parts so Shapeways will print it in 1/720 but the majority of the design work is complete.

Great to know thank you. If you need some more photos from that time some of the ones I took have some good detail of the island. Just let me know.
Dave- Rescaling the island to fit the old Revel kit should be easy enough to do. I'm trying to get my hands on that kit so I can do some of the other parts for it too. The link to my Shapeways shop is here: https://www.shapeways.com/shops/baconfist
Mardis- Glad you're feeling better. Model building is good recovery therapy!
Craig- I sent you a PM about your Ranger pics. Thanks!
Thanks Greg. I thought that was your shop. Having been adding and deleting items from my cart from your shop for sometime! Looks like I will have a reason to put together a big order shortly!
