I'm currently building the Academy CV-6 offering, and it's already of Doolittle Raid/Midway configuration.

Except it has the 20MM cut into the after round down, which wasn't done until after Midway. My biggest issue with the Academy kit is the forward elevator well, or lack thereof. It doesn't even go all the way down to the hangar deck level.

Yeah, there are issues with it, .50 cal positions there but nothing in them, the elevators you mentioned, etc. If you get into the elevators and such, there's basically no real detail inside the hangar. It's a fun build, though, and I think it makes a great entry-level kit for 700 scale ships. The snap-fit is quite good.

I only hope they haven't dropped that WWII Soviet DD kit they've had CAD of on their site for years. Been waiting (im)patiently for that one.

I am in Heaven!

I hope these are available in Waterline, or with the option, at least (although I have used some of the Full-hulled Benson-Gleaves DD models as a means to experiment with a basing technique that allows the hull below the waterline to be somewhat visible).

But the lack of decent Earlier Fletcher Models in 1/700, and no Farragut Models to speak of in 1/700, I am happy to see these.

Plastic is so much easier to convert than resin.

Edit:

And I didn�t even notice the Benham, Sims, and other Early DDs.

Now if someone would just create a Clemson-class DD I can do the entire Pacific 1942 Fleet (Surface Combatants, and one CV, so far, with 3 Supply Ships) as of May 1942 (as I get the use of my damned arm back. The Physical Therapy is agonizing, but I know that such things come with such costs, worth paying).

P.S. I just noticed Pit-Road offering a Detailing kit for their Kager?-class DDs that uses a machined Brass-rod built-up Masts that look VASTLY superior to the Folded PE masts. I am looking to buy a small machine-lathe for a Miniature Business I own a part of (to produce machined brass spears, pilum, javelins, lances, shields, etc. for Wargaming Miniatures) that I am thinking of doing some mast-parts like this for other ships. That would be especially helpful for the Treaty Cruisers, from any country, as well, to get rid of the folded PE masts, tripod or not.

Thanks for all the fantastic information on the new ship kit releases � I really enjoy checking into this thread every few days. I wondered if it would be possible to update the list of new releases on the very first page, as I see that quite a few of the (e.g., flyHawk) subjects that are shown as pending have already been released, for example HMS Hermes

Going back to the Academy CV-6 offering, when I built the first Academy CV-6 kit you could see that they had cleverly engineered that kit so that later versions of the ship could be released by just replacing one or two sprues, mainly new parts for the island and deck edge gun tubs. So hopefully that will be the case here. The first release was definitely early �42, there were no 40mm mounts, only 1.1s.

The 1942 Belfast kit now shows a price on the Stevenshobby site. ($64.95) Release date is still TBA. The 1959 version still has the "$0.00" price. I also noticed that the 1/700 Guam (CB-2) is listed as "in stock", but I haven't seen one listed on any of the retail websites that I check.

As an aside, I always find it somewhat incongruous that HMS Belfast, moored in the Thames, is painted in a WWII Admiralty camouflage scheme, which is at total variance with the post-war reconstructed state that she is now to be found in.

I suppose I'm just being daft, but it rankles a bit.

From an earlier post, the Joy Yard USS Samuel B Roberts looks interesting. I always liked (aesthetically) the low profile silhouette that this class had and, if I remember correctly, years and years ago Pit Road brought out the Rudderow, which I failed to buy, so this new potential release looks good.

It looks as though the price is fairly steep, being perhaps double the cost of the Very Fire model of the same vessel and I was just wondering what the quality comparisons of the two were, in order to justify such a price disparity.

Regarding Trumpeter�s forthcoming 1/700 HMS Belfast '42 kit. A photo of an early test pop of the kit from late last year shows a chubby, badly misshapen bridge deck! See here (its the bottom kit):

Compare the replacement upper bridge deck in the WEM HMS Belfast upgrade kit (which is also chubby/misshapen), with that in the Flyhawk upgrade kit, which is correct:

Can someone tell Trumpeter about this? It's not too late to correct the problem.... and I hope they will do the right thing. There shouldn�t be a need for an aftermarket manufacturer to produce a correction set.

I have both of them (Deluxe Very Fire and Platinum Vee Hobby), can make comparison shots for you, if you wish. Very Fire sprues are of more quality, Vee Hobby has much more extensive photoetch in the Platinum edition.

The price differential really depends on
- if you are really compare the comparable (Vee Hobby has the baseline, Deluxe (some PE + Barrels + Deck) and Platinum (extensive PE + Barrels + Deck) editions; Very Fire has the baseline and Deluxe (some PE + Barrels + Deck) editions,
- and where you are buying at. I just found Deluxe editions of both brands for $67 and VH Platinum for $84 on eBay

That would be very useful and helpful.

I haven't, historically, been interested in buying models of the Iowa class, at least not since I was a young boy, but I'm thinking it's about time I now did and there are a number of options to choose from.
A little bit of advice would be most welcome in this quest.

There you have a link to a couple of shots. Would you be interested in anything in particular, don't hesitate, I will be more than happy to make them.

Anyway, as you will see, Very Fire definitely comes out of the box a little better. Vee Hobby catches when PE is applied. Both of them are ahead of Tamiya (not surprisingly as it's a 20 years old kit now...which stays in the race when the Flyhawk set is being used).
