I ended up cutting out a section and repalacing it with a contoured piece of solid plexiglass to get the curve and slope. You can see it at the fwd end of the recessed covered weather deck.

With plastic you can get some real precision parts.
Looks like a very good repair!

For big sheet parts I use a lot of lexan or plexiglas, which I have in several thicknesses, really inexpensive and can be carved and shaped for instance with your sanding belts and wheel. Not so different than working with wood. Great for those tapered and rounded director towers etc.

Ahh!

Lots of small fussy wood work, came out pretty well. On the wing of the Admirals Bridge (below the Navigation Bridge wings) the most outboard portion that runs straight fore and aft is not a rail, but a 2/3 high bulwark topped with a rail. As I remember a small signal lamp and binoculars mounted on the rail. Will lookfor a photo.

I tore that railing back off. You are right.
I also completely re built the windows in the lower part.
I decided to build the window section and then glue it in place
instead of trying to slip the plastic behind the little wall.
It worked out much better.
I will post a photo tomorrow.

I made the walkway with paper but it looks too large. I may remove it.
I think the walkway is expanded wire mesh?

I have a photo somewhere from the admirals bridge that shows the walkway close up from below. I remember it being several spaced rods or steel planks parallel to the superstructure?

Will see if I can find the photo.

From this photo you can see that there are 5, perhas 6 support posts, most of which I have not added yet! There may also be a small awarthships bulkhead seperating the Admirals area from the crew. Don't remember that though.

Also note the ship is festooned with many steel lockers on feet. I make these out of plexiglass of appropriate thickness, sawed on the bandsaw to a strip of appropriate width, notch the middle of the bottom with the saw leaving four legs, then cut to length and smooth by rubbing on a sheet of sandpaper on a smooth surface. One can add a simulated door with paper or thin styrene.

You are killin me 747. LOL

I tore off that walk way around the bridge and now my model looks much better.
I found out that walkway around the bridge is at the bottom not the middle.
But many people take photos looking upwards so I was fooled.
I am not sure if I will put that bridge walkway on the model or not.

I also had to tear out all of the lower windows on the port side and
move them all about 1/4 inch forward so the port side matches the starboard side.

I also removed the inboard propeller aperature (one of them) and relocated it so it is
the same as the other side exactly.

So this day was a day of redo's but it feels very good to get all that stuff right.

I think a way to do the walkway would be to use a bottom section of a three rail photetch and put a thin rod down the middle and some cross pieces to insert into the structure.

Sounds good.
I do not have any photo etch and I have seen it but it does not look right to me for railings.
I would probably be just right for that walkway though since it is flat.
