Hey Rob, please keep the width of the boot-topping in mind, most overlooked by KM modellers. On a scale-350 model it should be around 6 or 7mm in width (depending on how far down it reached, there are different surces and different point of views, at least for Bismarck/Tirpitz, and I guess Scharnhorst/Gneisenau were not much different).FlowerPower wrote:Finished the lower hull

Great progress, Gordon! She's starting to really flesh out. This is a great build thread. Keep it up!Gordon Bjorklund wrote:The Ocean Gray has been apploied to the North Carolina and the touch ups have been completed. I'll let the paint cure for a couple of days and then start the masking for the Flat Black paint.

On my Scharnies, I've opted for 6mm:
(sorry for the bad shot, the WIP model is mothballed with others inside a showcase)
I hand-painted a broad dark grey (NOT black) band around the hull, took 6mm Tamiya tape and applied it on that band (with its upper edge along the upper edge of the underbelly), then painted the hull above and below the masking tape (well, I applied the rust before painting the final coat, which then was lightly sanded to make the rust come through).
And please, please make sure you get the various deck colours right, PM me if in doubt... (and if not)
Happy modelling ~ Olaf!
