Martin,

With as much time and effort you have invested in the wood deck, it would be a prudent move to slap together a few test panels for the purpose of checking out finishing methods. Just got done laying 450 sq ft of wood laminate floor and measure thrice and cut once is right now blazing in the front of my mind.

Actually, that was my plan!

Had a bunch of meetings today, including one on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, so no progress was made today. :(

I did, however, bring my camera to work and took a few better quality photos. Superstructure parts are dry fitted, so I have a sense of how much more I have to do. So Jose, no, I don't think I'll have her finished by the end of the year!

A few photos before heading off on vacation. Between work being busy and the trip to the IPMS/USA Nationals last week, I've worked on the deck only twice this week and haven't made much progress.

Working around the superstructure and barbettes has been sloooooooooooooooow.....

Also, I'm out of planks. When I get back, the first thing I need to do is cut more.

Martin,

How do you do it? Come on, tell us the story. I know for a fact that some guys train spiders to run the rigging, What 'kind' of creature did you engage to lay all those planks? Maybe 'converted' carpenter ants?

Seriously, your work is amazing!

Man am I glad that the yamato only had planking on her main deck. The large planks I used on that were enough of a pain to deal with, but these tiny planks you have to use here, that is some amount of patience. Looks great.
