You are welcome. Might have to build one myself! Consider posting a build report.Atma wrote:wow thanks for the amazing links D-Boy, thanks again![]()

I presume your interest is before service as repatriation and atomic test vessel?
A related question - I have an older Yahagi kit - what would be a good source for replacement main turrets? I think my kit is a Fujimi pop and the main turrets lack detail and have no blast bags. Does Pit Road or another manufacter make an alternate turret for this kit/class?

Re: Calling all IJN Light Cruiser fans
Your kit is a Tamiya kit not Fujimi, Fujimi never released an Agano class ship in 1/700.
Sadly Tamiya's turret got no detail, and there is (As far as I know) no replacement for them in the market, only for the barrels. And indeed Im planning to do a pre war IJN Sakawa.
Check this links for a IJN Noshiro build wich is almost identical to IJN Yahagi. Take a loot how easy is to make the turrets accurate:

Joe World has issued several extensive PE frets that allow greater detail and accurization (including proper vent placement on the main turrets. I used one of the lesser sets for my Noshiro 1944 build: http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery ... index.html

Dan, did your conversion to IJN Noshiro required a lot of work from a IJN Yahagi ? Cause Im planning to do a IJN Noshiro and a IJN Sakawa, but I fear the scratchbuild might be too much for me.
Excellent IJN Noshiro by the way

Pix at this link - where did you get/how did you create those bad-ass covered AA weapons mid-ship? What is the story on those?Dan K wrote:Joe World has issued several extensive PE frets that allow greater detail and accurization (including proper vent placement on the main turrets. Re: Calling all IJN Light Cruiser fans
IIRC, the "conversion" was not difficult. Late war fit for both ships resemble Sakawa in that the two searchight tower/HA platforms were relpaced by those blocky AA crew rest quarters, then the Type 94 HA directors placed on top. Also, one centerline searcholight tower. All this stuff comes on a Joe World fret. I'll have to look it up. The only other point of difference (outside of single AA) is the position of the a-c trolley railings on top of the a-c handling platform.
Which AA weapons are you referring to - the twin 8cm HA mounts, or the 25mmAA? THe HA mounts use the kits base and just replace the barrels with thinner brass rod. THe 25mmAA was from Fine Molds but, if I were to repeat today, I'd use the injection Fine Molds Nanodread 25mm.

Hmmm, nope (and thus maybe not AA...) the covered mounts, port and starboard, aft of the bridge, facing out. Very streamlined...Dan K wrote: Which AA weapons are you referring to - the twin 8cm HA mounts, or the 25mmAA? THe HA mounts use the kits base and just replace the barrels with thinner brass rod. Re: Calling all IJN Light Cruiser fans
Yes, the twin 8cm HA mounts. This weapon was a smaller version of the 10cm mount carried by the Akizukis, Taiho, Oyodo. No room on the Agano type hull, though L & W does show a plan for Noshiro with a planned (but never executed) refit with 4 of the twin 10cm mounts.
Like I said, I just used brass rod to replace the barrels.

Re: Calling all IJN Light Cruiser fans
I was wondering if there is a significant difference between IJN Kashii and the rest of the IJN Katari class cruisers(IJN Katori, IJN Kashima).
It will be a easy to build a IJN Kashii from one of the new IJN Katori class cruisers in 1/700 by Aoshima ?

Re: Calling all IJN Light Cruiser fans
Hobby Link Japan got some pictures of the upcoming new tool IJN Isuzu AA cruiser by Fujimi in 1/700:
http://www.hlj.com/product/FUJ41064
As you can see Fujimi offers IJN Isuzu in 1/700 in two version, mostly change in her light AA equipment.
