please excuse my long absence - I had some problems with my ear, an acute hearing loss. So I had some unwanted holidays...
Additionally, I had to convert a chinese becking cat into a "conducting aid for choirmasters of age 50 and older": a good friend of ours - our choirmaster, to put it into a nutshell - turned 50 on 28th and so I had to invent this device, see below!

Meanwhile, my entire stock of planks has run out, prove below. But it�ll be good for my ears, cutting planks is a silent job.

the PC-fan is thougt to push out the smoke a bit faster, because I would dislike that oilish stuff in the funnels to get stuck. The bad thing is that I do not yet have an idea how to reduce the rpms if necessary...

Hi Joachim, first of all Happy new year to you and yours.

Fine job of the Chinese cat by the way.

Simplest method of slowing the heat sink fan would maybe be to run it from a 6V battery as opposed to the designed 12V. (I think in simple terms as I'm not capable of deeper thought).

Keep the project going as it is an amazing piece of work.

I was wondering if our 1:72 scale conversion (from HMS BARHAM to HMS RENOWN) was going to overtake your build. Now that you've posted again with progress, we are at about the same point.

Hello everybody!

Due to lots of interruptions I decided to continue with smaller works and started to build one mock up of one of the big turrets. Today, basic construction was finished, next week I�ll add the hoods for optics an other details. Then, first time, I�ll try to make a cast from silicon and then make three copies by resin. That�s the plan, let�s see whether it will work!

Hi Joachim,

great to see you posting again.

Also good to see that you can do the small stuff whilst you can. Anything you manage to do now saves time at the later stages.

It's worth making a plug of the turret and then moulding all three. That way they will be consistent throughout and none will look out of place.

Hello, dear friends!

Oncemore a little progress at my never-ending-project. I�m a bit less fast than Song;-)
Actually, I�m preparing one secondary turret for resin-casting, together with a 15 in one.
I hope I can start casting in November, wasting my rest holidays then.
I�m also sticking the last-but-one deck with planks, leaving gaps for the catapult and hangar-tracks.
Let�s see how fast I can get!

Your HMS RENOWN is looking really great, especially with the curved decks as original.

My colleague (the owner) and I finished our conversion from BARHAM to RENOWN (1:72 scale) last month and launched her a week later. Successfully.

Hi Joachim,

thanks for letting me post on your thread.

Two images to show the model and also how we "condensed" the space available to include the Walrus on the catapult deck.

Our hull wasn't quite long enough to create a 1:72 scale battlecruiser from the old BARHAM hull, so in order to create the illusion, we folded the wings of the Walrus to indicate her being wheeled into her hangar and thereby save two inches.

Perhaps I could start a separate thread on the conversion of BARHAM to RENOWN?

What an impressive big ship!!! And quite amazing that she appears long and sleek although beeing built on a battleship hull! Are there still some fittings missing as p.ex. the midships pompoms? I decided to buy the John R. Haynes ones, looking very much detailed in their bags, but not yet built...
I�ll post some new pictures next week, almost finished the 15 in turret and added some details to the hangar.

Since an pupil exchange naar die kaap in 1991, I�ve got dear suidafrikaanse ouers in Pretoria. Our meetings are very rare due to the (even for ZA-relations) long distance, but each time overwhelming. We could persuade them to come to Germany for our wedding by offering a job as best man - and it worked:-) Looking very much forward to our next visit, hopefully in 2014 after my wife�s PhD.
