Thank you, Nektarios and Bob.

A little slow progress, this weekend.

Detail painting of the decks and bulkheads followed by a gloss clear coat in preparation for the USCG stripe decal and the eventual masking and painting the lower hull. I have also started to black wash the details of the bulkheads.

I continued with the decals on the whale boats as well as a black wash inboard.

(Mind you, that the stack and aft superstructure aren't permanently affixed, yet, nor are the midships lockers and vents.)

On the forescastle is a 5"/38 single knuckle turret from Corsair Armada that I will be detailing, soon. I've seen references that the #1 turret position was usually a double knuckle turret, but photos indicate a single knuckle turret on this/these ship(s).

The kit comes with a really, nice photo-etched stanchions and rails piece. It is even angled to match the slope of the main deck.

Added the non-skid decals from the DRAGON Buchanan kit.

Roland M.'s latest progress on his 1/144 USCGC Coos Bay model. He's working on the balloon hangar.

A very impressive build of a very interesting subject! (your 1/350 conversion that is - the two larger scratchbuilds look good too). I hadn't even heard of this class of ship until I discovered this thread yesterday.

EPinniger,
Thanks for browsing this thread and expressing your interest in it. I'm trying to spark more interest in this neat little class of ships.

They were seaplane tenders, PT Boat tenders, command ships, flagships, survey ships, Coast Guard cutters and they've served in South Vietnamese Navy, Philippine Navy, Norwegian and Italian navies, and even as a Greek cruise ship.

I'm hoping for a 1/700 scale version some day.

Work continues with progress on scratch building the foremast. I've added my rendition of the SPS-23 radar from some 1/700 parts. I've also added the masthead and towing lights and bull horn.

I've removed the unperfect, experimental decal from the stack (I will apply another one, later) and added railings atop the stack and an air whistle and the steam whistle and an outrigger yardarm to the platform. Upon a welcomed suggestion, I drilled the stack openings deeper, as well.

I've also painted the foremast.

I almost passed out while holding my breath during the masking and painting process. I always get anxiety attacks doing this. That's why I like the waterline models.

I have had terrific luck this time. The anit-fouling red is done and turned out pretty good.

Has anyone had this problem?......................I bought two new bottles of Model Masters Acrylic Anti-Fouling Red last week from the LHS and they look too, "raspberryish"; in the bottle and a little less-so when airbrushed on a sample. Luckily my old bottle of this color had enough to get the job done. It was just right.

Thanks, Tim! I hope to bring it to the Lee Summit show in April. Will you be there?

Now, "My Baby has a New Pair of Screws!"

I tried to it this prop on it for to make it go a little fast but it just wouldn't fit. "MORE POWER!!!" ugh, ugh, ugh!" (Tim Allen)
