I've been on a "not a ship" roll lately. My most recent, the Tamiya 1/48th scale F4U-1 "Birdcage" Corsair.

For those of you concerned about my building habits, I am now actually working on a floaty-thing.

Not much ship modeling on my side as well. Somehow my stash gets more and more filled by aircraft.

The turnbuckles is 0,5mmO.D x 0,3mmI.D brass tubing from both:
Albion Alloys: http://www.albionalloys.co.uk/ (AA)
Bobs Buckles: http://www.bobsbuckles.co.uk/ (BB)

BB is cool if you just wanna "pick&run". The lenghts Bob offers are on spot in scale.

AA provides excellent value for the money.
If you wanna cut your own lengths (which is easily done by rolling the tube and cut with scalpel) AA�s
MTB-05 provides what you need and will last for a while.

Dont forget a cool rigging wire!

Thank you Alex for those links.

Its been a while since I built any "String-Bags" ,..Wingnuts has some very good looking kits that have piqued my interest
The video showing the rigging of the turnbuckles is/was the method I had used....albeit my buckles were made from hollow tube with the "E-Z Line" doubled back thru like they show. Then they were pulled tight and heat shrank with a a small flame. But I do so love the look of the Metal buckles you guys used,...very authentic and life-like.

The wood-grain decals are top-notch!! I think more so convincing than the streaked "oil-based paint" technique that was the standard just a couple years ago. I just was never happy with my results and it seemed to take forever for the paint to dry.

Your application of the upper surface "Lozenge" decals are flawless! Love that streaked textured look you gave it.
What a fine representation of an often over looked subject. hmm can almost smell the castor oil

Never have had the pleasure of working with any subject from "WingNuts" yet .
But I do have a Sopwith in 1/28th Id love to try out with these buckles and the wood grain decals for the cockpit.

Over the past year these are what I've been doing instead of ships.
First was an ES-3 Shadow for a friend. He was the plane captain for this one.


Next is an S-3 Viking from VS-29. I wanted to do something in the air.

The decals were original to the kit, but I used some of them on my other S-3 build

Lastly I built an S-3 Viking from VS-38. I call this build "No Fly Day" It's the first time I chopped a fuselage and scratch build the avionics. I had to have a reason to have the wings open, so I added a few people scrubbing the wings. Also I wanted to show how the glass gets cleaned on the S-3. I loved this goofy looking bird, mainly because it is way more nimble than it looks, and it sure was a workhorse.






I'm back to boats, for now.

I built for myself a workshop to do some small wood projects in but on one side I have an office area 7'X16' with a cabinet that I built also 8'L X 7'H X 22"D.I have done A/C for the last 25years but use to do ships as a kid will I have been smitten with Naval history of late again.

I don't have much left that isn't a ship. I used to have something in the works non-stop when I was a teenager during the early 90's, but then I got married, started a family and my kids proceeded to destroy all my models. I only recently started back up; now the kids are older and know they aren't toys so hopefully my model survival rate will be a bit better.

None of these are prize-worthy jobs but they do have special sentimental value to me:

1/24 Willy's Jeep. I built this one about the same time I got married. It's been fixed...and re-fixed several times so it's a REAL beat-up jeep model, not just a simulated beat-up jeep model.






I build these two cars when I was 16... they were my two ultimate dream cars at the time.

First, a Road Warrior style 1/24 Dodge Challenger (at least I think it is... I can't remember)

I used to build one every year for my Grandmother on her birthday... I saved them from the garbage when my family was cleaning out her house after she died.

This was my first WWII warship, a 1/350 Tirpitz that I did when I was only 15. It actually doesn't look too bad in the picture but it's pretty god-awful in person... but hey, we all start somewhere! When I built it I wrote a letter to myself in the future and hid it under the deck; I only got it out and read it earlier this year. Did you know we were supposed to be living on the moon by now?

I've been working on artillery a bit lately. Here's a Dragon 1/35 88mm FLAK 36.

More artillery. This is a Trumpeter 1/35 Soviet 152mm Howitzer-gun M1937 ML-20.

The attempt at weathering didn't show up too well in these shots. Guess I need more light when I'm taking the pictures.

Apart from predreadnoughts, I dabble in 1:72 armour. And not the regular, boring, run of the mill panzers and t-34's. No, as in my ships, I'm looking for the oddballs, the humongous, the bizarre. As far as armour goes, the FCM 2C is about as oddball as you get. At 69 tons and a length of almost 34 feet (over 10 meters) it was and is the largest combat vehicle ever built and made operational. Look at the poor poilu at his fragile bicycle next to it! Armed with a 75mm gun and several machine guns, she was designed during WWI as the ultimate land ironclad. Only 11 were built, and kept in various states of operational readiness between the wars. Thoroughly outdated but an impressive propaganda tool, they were kept from the front lines during the German attack in 1940, and were blown up (one might almost say 'scuttled' ) before the Armistice.
The kit is a resin behemoth from the Chinese outfit of 5m Hobby. Rough around the edges, with unusable tracks (these are scratchbuild) and nasty details, she is all the brute the original vehicle was. Not yet finished, but I thought I'd share her anyway.

this is, at least, impressive...

the air intakes/engine exaust block behind the turret is almost ridiculous...a huge monster.
