Hmm, the action scenes were shot without any imagination. Point camera, roll camera. The attacks were not really coordinated, there wasn't a hint of accuracy. The attack was poorly scripted. The background story in modern times were slightly melodramatic. And I found the CGI to be pretty lousy. For example, the story should focus around the 3 main characters, and out of the blue we get a few shots with officers. Very messy and incoherent.
Perhaps I don't really understand Japanese movies.

Hey Al, just a heads up.. you're on the verge, if not over it, of breaking copyright law.
I don't see anything there that falls under the definition of fair use.
THe more people that know how much suck the laws have the more likely it is we'll get them changed.

*LOL*. Thanks Tracy, but I AM a lawyer (though not practicing any more).
If the Toei Film Corp. sends me a cease and desist letter I'll remove the photos. Plus they're put there for YOUR enjoyment (o naysayer!). I am not making one red cent - its a labor of love.

Hey, I'm no nay-sayer. I'm hoping the laws get changed myself... it's just not likely to happen if people don't know how screwed they are.
That said... were you a copyright lawyer? Would you hire a tax lawyer to represent you in a medical malpractice case?
Whether or not you charge for it is immaterial and would only affect the amount of damaged awarded in court if it went that far.... it's (and I'm not specifically referring to what you posted) still a violation of copright even if you don't make a red cent.

I can't believe this is still going on
The wallpaper photos are publicly released on the web by the filmmaker. The fact I altered them a little to make them cooler doesn't make a whit of difference. Besides, the way this works is that they send you a cease and desist letter before anything happens. Posting screen capture shots from a movie is so common on the Internet that I don't need to add anything.
The areas where this comes up is when large parts of copyrighted written works are posted (especially newspaper articles), or when a garage kit maker makes a sculpt of say, The Hulk, and Marvel Comics then 'shuts him down' via letter threat from an attorney. And those guys are selling the stuff for $$$.
Besides, the movie will never be released in the US anyhow. (I can't beliebv I am actually still replying to this post).
Look, if you want to impress us with your knowledge, feel free to do so. I know enough about the field that - even if you are correct - given the trivial subject matter and its non-commercial nature - the odds of what you're suggesting happening are 0.001% in my legal opinion.
And again, the worst thing that happens is that you get a legal letter, and if you comply, its all cool.
Its the people with large-scale copyright infringement profit operations that get involved in lawsuits.
Where have I violated the copyright law? Because I merely took the name of the film off digitally from the Yamato wallpaper shot (put on the web by the filmmaker for all to download freely) to make it look cooler? Or because I created that 'Musashi' diorama from the same photo?
Please. You surely have something better to do with your time.

Hello gang.
Well, I have fixed up many of the shots from the film - corrected for the color, air-brushed away any lines where I added sky or sea to make a 4:3 aspect ratio suitable for your computer. I also lengthened the Yamato in the 'Final Battle' wallpaper, and increased the height of the torpedo water plume to a more realistic height.
So check it out.

I got the Fujimi "Super Yamato" yesterday and I'll say it's a pretty good kit. Not only does it give you the option of building the late-war version of Yamato/Musashi, but also the as-built version as well, with the 18.1" guns to go with the triple turrets and the 4 6" guns/turrets too. That option was one that I didn't know about. I've been toying with the idea of getting another kit in the future and try my hand at building the Shinano in a possible late-war BB configuration.

Well, I'm now the proud owner of both Tamiya's 1/350 Yamato and the Lion Roar set, so it's time to get to work. I will admit, the Lion Roar set is fairly intimidating just for the sheer volume of parts! That said, I figure I'll just break it up into subassemblies and take a deep breath.
Turets first!

I was wondering if I should get a regular Photoetch kit from say WEM for $45 or save a little for the Lionroar one, which is about $100 on eBay. The lionroar shots earlier in this thread looks fantastic, but I dont have much money

Musashi was sister ship of the Yamato. The second of the class to be finished. The third one, Shinano, was converted to aircraft-carrier before it was finished as battleship. The fourth ship of the class, more known as Hull #4, was never completed.

Even more 'battle scenes' of the Yamato added to the website - from the movie website. Close-ups. Real nice!

The Lionroar set is outstanding, especially with the metal barrels (which have some inaccuracies but look so much nicer than the kit's). I've compared it against the WEM set and I have to give the nod to the LR set, although the WEM set is an outstanding set and costs half as much. If the metal barrels aren't a big deal, go with the lovely WEM set. If the barrels are worth it, the PE is a touch nicer in the LR set and the barrels make it justifiable.DeadByCheese wrote:I was wondering if I should get a regular Photoetch kit from say WEM for $45 or save a little for the Lionroar one, which is about $100 on eBay. Honestly, both are great sets.

Well, sorry to revive a probably forgotten topic, but after consideration and looking at what I had based the Super Yamato on, I have changed the paint scheme on it to better reflect what I was going after... (Look at NF pic above..)

Came out quite well IMHO, though I cannot model ATM, and cant paint my current Musashi in this scheme..

YAMAOTO 大和 Model
I was in Numazu yesterday and dropped by my favorite model shop (the Kitbox). The owner, Nagi-San, pointed out a new display - a 1/350 Tamiya YAMATO built by a Mr.?Tezuna?
