Starting with the JFK 2004 fit build.

I have decided to divide the work in 4 parts.

1) Island.
2) Hull.
3) Hangar.
4) Details.

I ll start with the study of the island and i ll show the areas that you need to change if you want to try to scratchbuild the island using the CV-66 one. Apart from the stack which is the major difference of the two islands there are some smaller ones that you may miss if you dont pay enough attention. I almost missed one of them myself but i was lucky because i saw my mistake before it was too late. Remember that if you make a pre-2004 JFK then some details might be different


Port side.Two major differences exist in the port side layout and i surrounded them to make them more evident. Red arrows point to smaller differences.


Starboard side. There are two areas where the island's structure is bigger than on CV-66. One of them (just fore of the stack) was furter enlarged some time during the late 90s to support SLQ-32. A smaller difference can be observed in the CIWS structure which is slightly bigger than on CV-66.

Of course there are other smaler differences but the ones i ve located need to be fixed early in the construction of the island.

It doesn t matter if you are a slow builder Arnaud. Building speed is not among the criteria by which you judge a model. If you are interested i have found some extra carrier vehicles i wont use. Tell me if sending them to you will be helpful.

Just a quick update on Illustrious:



Just the weapons, radar, crane and boats to go and the Island should be finished!

Now a small update on JFK island. It has started to look like the real thing but still there are lots remaining to be done.

Nice to see the progress on all the models here. No real progress on my side, seems that I'm also a rather slow builder

ASFC, I'm curious, is that Dragon's premium edition kit? Nektarios, the island is really coming together and looking great!

I find it nice to be able to follow an entire build, that's why I created a new thread because as I'm slow one would need to look for the bits among 50 pages... You guys kill me, posting the first assembly on a Monday and the final model the next week end

It is the latest Dragon Issue of Illustrious (it wasn't premium'ed). Compared to their earlier Invincble Class Kits it was quite poor-parts that did not fit, not enough photoetch for the Island, not enough Decals (no Pennant numbers-hence why it looks like I'm assembling letters on my Island), general glaring changes that have happened to the Real Lusty that the kit is missing. In fact even the new Comm Mast at the back of the Island is slightly wrong, but I really could not be asked to have to change it. On balance though they did finally give enough Roundels for the Aircraft they supplied, and the Merlins in the Kit are little beauties! (In fact I hope they release the Merlins and GR9s as a seperate Aircraft set-I could do with alot more!)

AFSC - PM me if you're looking for any modern RN spares in 1/700 scale. I've got tons of them (obviously depending on what you are looking for).

FWIW I am currently building WEM's HMS Invincible in 1982 guise.
