Superdetailing extreme!!!

Illustrious update-I'm almost finished!!

Here is the Airwing ('Tailored Air Groups' in current RN/RAF language), showing some Harriers and two Tamiya Chinooks. I have built the Merlins and SeaKing ASac.7s but they don't come out well in the light available-I show them off in daylight on the Carrier.



And here is Illustrious. Basically it is some weapons, Decals and PE Netting and 1022 and she will be finished. I have built the Type 1022 from the PE parts-ouch, it hurt my eyes.

Carl, very nice work so far! Can I ask an amateur question? Those orange lifesavers, did you attach them yourself or were they already on the hull? I'm curious because the hull is still unpainted and whereas the lifesavers already are.

ASFC, your Illustrious is looking better each time. I especially like the Chinooks! Keep up the good work!

Do you practice surgery? I�m an Urologist. It�s nice to see colleages here! Could be interesting to share what surgical techniques can be translated to model building... and vice-versa!

As promised the final part of the Airwing.

Some Merlins, including a close up of the one I painted in two tone splinter grey camo. The painting isn't pretty this close, but when you consider these things will sit on the end om thumb quite comfortably, I think you will agree it is no mean feat painting the camo .



And Some Seakings-compared with Dragons newer offerings it would be nice if these came with all three pieces of undercarriage!

Excellent .

I think that model has shown (when compared with mine) how ridiculous RN/Govt shipbuilding policy had been, in how far the Invincibles have come from their Cruiser origins to being CVLs. At least CVF will be built as Carriers from the outset, and don't have to lose self-defence weapons systems to carry all the aircraft they can.

I'm hoping one day WEM will consider an Ocean LPH to go with the other modern RN stuff they have done.

I'm using GMM's Doors and Hatches PE and fire hose racks and life rings come with them. I prepainted the life rings on the sprue a while back. I usually paint them first and then place them on the finished model. This time, I am just putting them on, then will air brush the bulkeheads and paint the rings orange again, after that.

Nice airwing ASFC. Not much work done on JFK. I hope i ll have something to show by the end of the week.

I worked on the little shack above #3 turret. Added a little more height to it and windows, as well as carved out enough clearance for the door next to the windows on the stbd side.

I'm thinking about adding the basketball hoop, too.

Carl, the level of detail you put to your ships might make me wanna improve my BB-62.

Very nice! Figures, too! Which NJ kit is that? Trumpeter? It looks like it. My first USS Iowa looks like your NJ.

The Iowa had a different Fighting Top and the aft wooden deck pattern was different.

I was dissatisfied with the lack of bulkhead details in the Trumpeter and Skywave kits.

My first Iowa model came out pretty good, but I was eager to make another with more detail and more accurracy.

If you want to do another modern Iowa, I'd say the NNT kit would be best. If I wasn't so far into this second Iowa, I'd trash it and go with the NNT, which I may get and build anyway.

Very nice Rob. What kind of crane is that??? Is it included in the kit or is it part of an aftermarket set??? I m sure i ve seen it somewhere before but can 't remember where.

The crane is a WEM job-although I don't know the contents of the WEM kit, they do sell it with a load of other stuff in an Invincible after market set if you want one.

HIppy Ed a good technique which is very useful in medical practice is not to cut yourself using surgical blades.
I have managed to do that in the hospital but not at home when cutting plastic.

Well speaking seriously the only thing of use from medical equipment is surgical blades. I haven t used any surgical technique in modelling.
