Wow. Now that's an interesting ship Nektarios! I also have never seen that ship before and you're right, with the inside decks exposed I'm even more impressed. Very cool!

Last weekend i posted a photo of each of my finished conventionally powered aircraft carriers now its the CVNs turn.


CVN-65 just needing its airwing.


CVN-71.


CVN-72.


CVN-75.


And the what-if CVN-78.

CVN-68,69,70,76 will be upgraded with the use of GMM PE CVN-74 will be rebuilt and CVN-77 will be built as soon as it will become available by Trumpeter.

I actually found an Oshumi kit on Ebay today and thought about getting it but then I re-read your post about the fact that it doesn't come with as many extra vehicles etc. than the Shimokita (thanks for the info!), so I guess I'll try to get hold of one of those someday. Probably a good idea anyway since my stack of models keeps growing much faster than I can build! I think the model building virus has really gotten me now

I have 16 carriers but i consider only 8 of them finished. the rest will be overhauled and PE and some extra stuff will be added to them.

I m happy you have the modelling virus too. It seems its gettingto be a pandemy.

16, that's impressive. With the models that I have laying around here waiting to be built, I will already be running short of space. I'll start small with one single carrier and will definitely be taking a look at your work for reference. Speaking of aircraft carriers, how is your JFK?

I'm still plugging away at my modern Iowa by Skywave. I think I'll stick with waterline models. I took the bottom hull and put it on this Skywave kit. I usually don't have luck with masking and painting the hull, but I kind of lucked out this time. The tape only lifted the paint in a couple of places.

By using a few of the tips and techniques I've read about this, here, I waited longer for the first coats to dry before masking and painting the next step. I didn't burnish the tape down as hard as I have in the past and air brushed the paint color that is under the tape before spraying the next color to minimize bleeding of the new color under the tape.

I really hate masking around the curved stern, too. Somehow, I broke off a blade on one of the propellers. I found it and glued it back on. Those are going on last, next time.

I've applied the wood deck color (Testors Flat Tan) and still need to touch up the gray bulkheads (Neutral Gray) afterwards. This second Iowa will have the correct wood deck pattern around Turret #3. I've started on the fantail color (Engine Gray) and some of the other gray decks (Gunship Gray). I started to dark wash some of the details that I put on the bulkheads, but I think I'll wait to do more of it until after a clear coat is on.

Wow Carl , yes that is coming along-although I must admit it looks a bit weird to see a ship with its bottom attached [/ASFC is far too attached to waterline models]

Now my eye cleared a little today (see my last post in Carrier Builders Yard!), so I dared to pick up my RFA Gold Rover and do some work:


Since I last posted a piccy of her, a large amount of painting has been done, the Bridge added, the ships boats have been/or are about to be added. Most of the Detail on the main deck is almost done. The Hull is finished except some Bow flaring and detailing below the RAS Gear midships (or more correctly, where he RAS gear will be!).

I haven't backtracked to follow your build. What is it and you are scratch building it? Is it a card model?

Why didn't anybody tell me that the Iowas had two different types of propellers?

You know what I screwed up on my Iowa? I just now noticed that there are two different types of props on these battleships. Two five-bladed props and two four-bladed props. The four-bladed props go outboard and the five-bladed ones go inboard. I mistakenly put the four-bladed ones on the starboard side and the five-bladed ones on the port side. I wondered why there were different part numbers on the sprue. Should have looked closer at the instructions. They're superglued on, and I have no replacements if I break them. I'll have to live with it.

So much for detail...Ha!

As a former Machinist's Mate and propulsion expert in the USN, that should have been more obvious to me.

RFA Gold Rover-a scratchbuilt upper works on a cut and shut Airfix hull (she is 1/700, naturally ) One of the RNs current AOs.

No contest winner, here. The props are barely noticible. If the whole model turns out as decent as I hope, it may be worthy of the right prop configuration after all. I'll let you know.

It Gives me joy if i can help any model builder. I ve got 4 Iowas. I will never use the props or any other part below the waterline. I fyou ever change your mind you may send me a PM or email and i ll send the parts ASAP.

Another very interesting release. Kirov in 1/350. Not in the divine scale but still its worthy to be mentionned.

You know, Nektarios, I went to my extra Tamiya WWII USS Iowa kit seeking extra props, and it took a minute or two after not finding any props on the sprues that I realized that it was a waterline model only, with no lower hull option.

Being honest with myself, I won't be able to stand the improper props. I "will" take you up on your offer, Nektarios. My address in a PM to you.

I had the idea of adding water below my model. I think I like it. I'm going to have an acrylic case made to fit the base, and will have to trim the water plastic to fit within the inside dimensions of the case.



I painted some details on the completed #2 Turret and touched up the light gray vertical surfaces, but have more detail touch up painting to do.



Here is a shot of my scribing job of the after deck, after painting and adding a light brown wash to it. I think that I've hidden the aft deck seam joint pretty well. A dull clear coat will help to adjust the color, a little, and take the shine off of the deck. I like how my scratch built aviation shack turned out, too.

I'll have to be in the right mood to tackle the other two 16" turrets.
