So I post these photos just to show the progress I have made. Not that everything is perfect...
hehe have you tried the 1/700 scale ?
I love how you painted the hull, I want to paint my IJN Nagato that way too, I love that particular shade of red. Maybe is the sun, but it really look like true shipyard red !
Please tell me what red you used, please ?
Figured I'd try posting here, does anyone know where I can get a good set of 1/96 scale drawings for Pennsylvania in 1941. So far all I have found are her refit after pearl for 1945. Thanks, Chad
I think your best bet is going to be Arizona 1941 drawings and some other source to compare differences.
"Keystone Battlewagon" by Myron Smith has a 1/500 side and overhead view circa 1935 in it, for example http://www.amazon.com/Keystone-Battlewa ... 0933126271
This was before the Mk 19 director was fitted, of course, but I think this hybrid approach is going to be your best bet.
Hello, I have the Banner 1/350 and Revell 1/426 USS Arizona. I want to do the Revell kit first sort of
an experiment and hoan my skills. What era was this kit modeled for? I am thinking late 30's up to
1940? I want to do it with the biplanes. Also what measure would the camoflage have been? Thanks---John
Mostly it's 1941 - some features such as the forward fighting top "antenna" on the rear are more correct for pre-1941, but the superstructure itself is post January 1941 refit. Camouflage would be pre-war gray for January until June, 1941, Measure 1 until late October, and then anyones' guess after that.
Prewar gray is "#5 Standard Navy Gray," which was the main color used from about 1921 until 1941. There is no FS match, but you might be able to find something close in some of the conversion charts. I just use White Ensign paints.
Yes to the red turret tops, actually. I tend to associate those differently that camouflage so I didn't think to include that. Red turret tops are "good" until 1938, prior to that there were some differences from time to time that I'm not 100% sure of without looking through references.
Thank you for straightening that out. January '41 is what it will be, #5 gray with red topped turrets and biplanes. I was told Kingfishers didn't
come aboard until July '41. Is my Banner kit actually Trumpeter?---John
And don't forget, for a January '41 fit, they'd be yellow-winged Kingfishers with red tails and stripes!
I believe the initial delivery of the Pacific battle fleet's Kingfishers was in the middle of 1940 (trying to recall the Classic Warships Kingfisher book's excellent coverage of that delivery with the book not in front of me at the moment), and with Arizona in the yard for the later part of the year it's quite possible she didn't embark hers until January '41. But definitely not biplanes after that refit.
I dug out my Toms photo etch for the Revell 1/426 Arizona. The instructions are very
vague. Is there a site somewhere showing how to bend these? I don't have a photo etch bender
and they suggest an Exacto chisel? Thanks---John
Get yourself a small piece of glass from a glass store, a razor blade and a jewlers pliers should do just fine. There are pe bending tools that are not to expensive like the small shop hold and fold. I have the 4 inch model and it works fine for me. Good luck.
Thanks Mark. I like this idea, I have done very little PE work in the
past and this will help out a lot! The glass plate I have, with gridded
lines. I guess after the Hold and Fold I'll need opti visor!---John
Hi all , does anyone have any information on the main guns and turretts for the A, what I am trying to discover is whether the elevation was angle was changed/increased during subsequent refits ?. This photo shows the turrett face has more plating above the slots compared to the 1/200 trumpy.
cheers Jay
