Up to now, I've been fine with using brass rod for the main barrels on my DDs. With the arrival of the new 12.7cm turrets/barrels included with the new PitRoad NE05 equipment set, I seriously considered retaining the plastic barrels, as they are far better than anything else previously released in injection plastic. However, I have a batch of Rainbow 12.7cm brass barrels on hand and felt that now was as good a time as ever to try something new. Results below. I like 'em.

Note: The RB barrels appear to have been designed as replacements for the new Fujimi DD kit barrels. The barrels are slightly longer than the plastic NE05 versions because the PitRoad version come with longer blast bags molded on. Accordingly, it's necessary to cut off the NE05 barrels in line with the front of the turret, along with some of the blast bag. Some excess CA serves to smooth the blast bag line down to the barrel.

Dry fitting of the major components on Naganami also below, along with a view of the FineMolds 25mm AA & NE05 Y-guns.

It looks like that I will FINALLY be able to apply the main coat of paint over this weekend. I just need to add short aerial posts to some of the turret tops. Kazegumo is now also ready to go.

All components laid out below, save those loosely positioned on Kazegumo, and one turret needing barrels. The torpedo bodies on the upper left will get a separate coat of alumimum/silver and black warheads.

Thx, all. I did manage the first coats. Aside from a few glue spots and blemishes to be corrected, these should turn out well. Will post some pics after the grey coats are done.

This is an incredible build! The detail you're putting into this, just amazes me. Thanks for posting the link on the other thread so that I was able to find it easily. Builds like this make me want to aspire to this level and keep me intersted in modeling. I've only done 3 models and took about a 3 year break between those and my current Tassafaronga build. Keep up the good work!

I have seen less detail on 1/200 scale scratch built IJN DDs. What you do in 700 scale is utterly inspiring and partially to blame for my obsession over resin/PE accessories. I started following this build way back when I first really got serious about this hobby.

I'm glad you didn't throw in the towel when you suffered some damage to these fine ships and I'm looking forward to seeing them painted/assembled.

I managed to do the proper re-work and apply main coat paint over the weekend. Touch-ups required but, they came out pretty well. Kazegumo has her bridge test fitted (again), and it'd a bit tight. The upper works railings are coated a tad thick but, they will all be covered with simulated canvas.

Both bridges are painted and rigged with the halyard portion of the riggings. I need to add searchlight directors on/at the open rear portion of the compass bridge decks, and to tone down the white of the halyards. Gonna marry them up with the hulls as soon as the waterlines are finished.

The is the first time I've added the supplemental jackstaffs at the rear of the masts.

These stations look terrific Dan. You really captured the look and shape of them very well. The early war one looks the part. I will be posting some pic's as soon as i have a better camera ( Mine is only 5 mage pic's.)
