Here are some detail pics of the finished catwalks and platforms. They are basically finished, though still need a final flat coat. Man, the camera sure magnifies the mistakes!

The camera magnifies the mistakes but i can see no mistake there. Either there is none or you re hiding them pretty well.Kelly Quirk wrote:Here are some detail pics of the finished catwalks and platforms. Gentlemen,
I was lucky enough to view this build by Kelly, in person, last week. It is as spectacular "in the flesh" (if not more so) as it is in these beautiful pics!
Thank you, Kelly, for allowing me to view your magnificent collection of fine builds of all of your genres of interest!
Most humbly yours,

Wow. No matter how hard I look, I don't seem to find any flaw either. Incredible job. I just love how clean the surfaces look...seriously, wow!

Small update: The stern is about finished, I added the jet engine test stand and the boat docking station. There are two large bumpers on either side of the docking station I want to add... I just bought some craft beads that might do the trick. I'll post pics if they come out okay. Also got the elevator installed, some more weathering and a few crew figures.

Re: 1/350 USS Truman
I'm turning my attention to the base now. I want to get the model mounted before I start breaking things! Here is the basic base, wood frame with a piece of thick styrofoam cut to size. The edges of the foam are painted flat black. The hole in the center is for the battery pack and electronics:

I ran a test for my water effect. I have a large tub of smooth tile grout left over from a "honey-do" and thought I'd give it a shot. I just plastered it on the foam and then gave it some texture before it dried. Then tried a coat of cheap acrylic paint from the craft store. So far I like how it's looking:

This is also a test. I'm going to have the crew holding up a large flag on deck. This is a test flag decal that I made myself and adhered it to a piece of thin foil. Again, I' pretty encouraged with the result, I may make the final flag a bit bigger though:

Not knowing much about CVNs, is that small boat docking rig a permanent fixture? Does it retract up and down? Or does it remain in place like you have it? In either case, its beautiful!

It's permanent. It's actually a pretty beefy structure on the real thing.
